hi guys :) I've been modelling a stuffed animal bear lately and I thought it'd be nice to give it some fur w/ the fur plugin.

well, I stick some fur on and this is what happens:

I've run through the introductory Maya tutorials without much problem and have applied fur to other shapes before... dunno why its failing like this. I want the fur to go all the way around :( I get the same problem after mirroring, welding, and smoothing :(

I modeled this thing w/ polygons and after reading around it seems that polys weren't the best idea to go with fur? I just don't know how to model with Nurbs though :P

so, is there a way to fix this? or is it a lost cause :annoyed:

thanks in advanced :D

Hi there!

First, I haven't played with fur at all, so I'm not the best one to address your question. But... having said that, I've heard a lot on the Alias list regarding fur issues and it almost always turns out to be an improper UV map on the object. Make sure your UV mapping is all good and well. Apparently Fur uses the UV to distribute the fur.

alright! that was the problem :D thanks so much.

yeah so i guess my UV's were jacked up :P I don't have much experience in UVs so i just read the maya docs and clicked around until it seemed to work. then i applied fur and yes! it worked :D

Well i have make some test with maya fur and yes the polygon is not really the best way to have a proper fur, specially with uv.
You must a have a really clean UV, so maybe with deepUV you could have one, because the fur grow in function of your UV.
The polygon mode with fur have a limitation too, you can't animate it.
Of course there are some solution but i think the best is waiting Maya 5 who will support animated fur on polygon...
