is it based on a real gun or one u designed??

at this point it is 724 polys. i need to finish the butt or shoulder rest thing. If you want the model you can have it. i based it off of a gun i saw in nendo. I am making this gun to learn wings better.

how would i go about texturing this thing? i modeled it in wings and imported it in obj in maya. I am not good at texturing so your help would be good.

Nice.. How about a wireframe post?
About the polycount: I don't think it's too much for a game like quake 3, but it kinda depends on the game engine.

You should start by mapping it. Use cylindrical mapping for the pipes and some planars for the rest. Squeeze it all in to the UV-space and take a "UV-snapshot". Paint your textures, and apply it to the object:) (that is if you use Maya)
Maya has a really great UV-editor!

But i think you should lower the segments on all the cylinders and tubes. I think eight would be enough.
