Title: Homo Octopus - another mermaid
Name: Diane Özdamar
Country: France
Software: Photoshop

This painting has been done for a tutorial I'm writing for psd magazine.
It's another mermaid, but I've done it on purpose since lots of people had asked me how to paint see creatures/hair/translucent skin/gills (I've tried to put all these things in one picture).
I hope you'll like it :)
The composition may look unusual and a little bit empty but since I'm planning to use it as a wallpaper (you can also download it to use it as a wallpaper if you like it), I've put some "empty space" (not really empty, but dark enough to avoid being too distracting) on the right part.
Enjoy :)

So that's why it looks much like your famous "Deep Sea Creature". I still remember that you used to add the jellys to it but then decided to remove them to focus on the creature right ? Thus, this pic can't give me such a great impression as "Deep Sea Creature" did. But your talent is still there of course :). The only thing I can say that the tentacles don't really look like those a real octopus, unless it's your purposely creation.

4 stars okay ?

Scary stuff Diane. I like the jellyfish and the way you’ve textured the skin of the mermaid
I'll keep an eye out for the final tutorial in the PSD mag. (great.!)

Btw, I think your mermaid is a close friend of “my Siren” who has an intimate affection for octopusses :D

Thank you very much people :)

pnkdan : that's indeed why she looks like Deep sea creature ;) About the tentacles : it was not meant to be very realistic (the jellyfishes are not realistic either) since this is a fantasy creature :) Thank you!

Emile : I had not thought about that! They must be friends indeed :D
