balubhalerao 08-01-2007, 06:44 AM This is the first time I am participating. I have learned a lot absoving the work on CG talk... This above matte painting was done as a pencil sketch and later painted in photshop....
Will be uploading some of other matte painting later... thanks.

Yea, this is very nice as an illustration, I actually like it a lot, but its definitely not a matte painting. Try heading to the 2D showcase board.

Wow, very dynamic.
The last two posters have said this is not a matte, I agree. In matte painting people/crowds (live elements) are left out when posting on this site. We call this a clean plate and is the best way to show of your matte. If you had shown this as two separate images it would have gone down a lot better.
I love the composition, colour and atmosphere in this piece. Put it in the 2d gallery I think it there would be a more appreciative audience there.
Nick and Tiberius would agree with me as they are connoisseurs of the matte painting artform there comments might have appeared negative to this being a matte. They would however agree this is a fantastic illustration. We all three would love to see more of your fine work.
Lots of respect
See you around
Rich.

Yes, my response possibly was a little brief, i didnt mean for it to sound as though i was putting you down. However (and without wanting to turn this into another thread about exactly what a matte painting is / isn't), matte paintings generally aim for very high levels of realism that can be used directly in film shots.
As I said before, your work is very nice as an illustration, and im sure it would recieve a warm welcome in the 2D showcase forum.
Rich - Im not sure about connoisseur, but thank you for clearing that up :)

Ok what software do you use to do that multi plane effect, and when you go to the side and see the elements?
Fantastic by the way
Rich.

Rich - Software such as After Effects can do the multiple image planes.
Balubhalerao - Really great work, that breakdown was very nice too! You integrated all the elements nicely, congrats :)
