This is the scenario. I have an object which I have unwrapped into into several different peices of mesh to paint on in photoshop, but where the different peices join on the same object there is a noticable crease in the map.
Does anyone out there know if it is possible to blend material edges together please.

Thanx in advance

Yes.

Use a blend material with a B&W mask to mask out the edges in PS.

Then, you can render to texture the results of that endevor, and can get rid of the blend material.

That is, if I'm reading you problem correctly.

should have done this before. But here the shoulders join the chest and there is a distinctive crease between the two textures, as they are seperate materials assigned to seperate polys with a multisubobject mat.

Thanx

Yup, no way to do that.

You really should'nt map stuff that way, as you can never blend 'em together.

That's what UVWUnwrap is for.

You should have all your texture entities on one image map for ease of painting and reduction of seams and smearing.

but even if your maps are all on one image you have to split the mesh to flatten it out in places, ie the legs from the hips, or the chest from the back ect, you are still going to get those creases. Obviously unless you are carefull in Photoshop. But I thought there was a way in Max to blend them instead.

paint those seams away... i never had problems with it, but i know if you have you could use deeppaint3d for making it seamless

You're not listening.(no offence).

You have a multi-subobject level material assignment. You can't paint a seam when max can't see it.

You will have to fully unwrap the object before you can paint out the seams.

Re-read what I said on my first response. UVWUnwrap, paint out seams, blend material, mask, render to texuture.

That's how people have been doing it for many years, and there really is no other way with your current setup.

Ok I think I undersand you and I did the first time, unfortunately I have not used the blend material yet. (no offence taken) ;)

Do you know of any good tutorials that would help explain this a bit better please.

Texturing section link is at the bottom of the page.

It's an older one, but the UVWUnwrap section is pretty good.

As for the blend material, that's an easy one to use. In retrospect, I meant to say the Mix map. Same basic thing, but the blend material type blends 2 materials, whereas the mix map blends 2 maps together. Sorry for the confusion. Either would work, though the mix map is the better route for this.

One map is your diffuse map you painted in PS

The other map is the blended edges you (will)paint in PS

The mask will be a B&W map. Black equals on of the above maps, white equals one of the above maps.

This way, you can blend 2 maps together...

Ok, that's not the clearest thing in the world.

Removing seams is a difficult thing to overcome, and it really takes some practice. You can also get rid of seams in PS, but only if you see in 5 demensions. ;)

Look at the sticky tutorials thread at the top of the Max forum for more help.

Best of luck, and I'll be back...

Gosh, I'm sorry. It's such a popular tutorial. Heck it's the subject of that sticky thread at the top of the forum.

Hmmmmm...

I'm very sorry for the trouble. I should have checked the link.

Again, I'm terribly sorry. I'll try to hunt down another one.

Best of luck, bro!
