Well, this is my first entry after being a member for some time now so i appolagise in advance if the thread is wrong in anyway, just point me in the right direction.

So, anyway, I have decided on a giraffe with her baby, for a couple of reasons but mainly because its my girlfriends favourite animal and i have access to plenty of pictures :). I noticed another entry best me to the punch in doing a giraffe, i hope this is ok, like i said its my 1st entry.

here is a couple of inspirational pics:

ok, so basic shape is down, detail time now, once ive added more detail i will split off the model for the baby to modify and finish separately. I've had a look at some of the other entries and they all looking great, will help to push me :) keep up the good work!

thanks guys, ive been having fun with this so far, no real problems yet, cant decide wether i should (need?) to finish the bodies with detail for a portrait style render (is that a part of the rules?) i'm also considering taking the model into zbrush, though my experience of it is still limited, this could help with the 'fur' as it is very short, not enough to warrant maya fur. I'm also considering the background...zoo, serengeti, or trees?

This is looking very good. You already have them looking like Mom & baby, excellent. I'd have a flat plain with the scrub grass of the sevanna. Whereever you put them just have em in full gallop. Can't really think of any other motion giraffes are known for.
