Hi Guys !

I finaly find a bit of time to participate to this contest. Here's my 3D pre-visualisation of the character I whant to do. My idea is to create a strange fish ''sea monster'' with a tiger look, I just what to make something weird and funny.. thats it ! I will keep everything simple, cartonny style with a little realistic touch, a lot of colors.... Hope you will like it, stay tune for update soon !

Hi ! Here's my the first 3D pass for my Tiger Fish. It look a bit like a snake or dragon now , but thats will look different with texture.. :), I whant to make the character look more like a lobster than a fish with red colors.

Here's some Render Pass I wil use to make my comp in photoshop. Ive decide to comp everything in photoshop with different pass like, light pass, displacement, diffuse, bump, raytrace, Every part of this characetr is render in a separate image(like ears, eyes etc...). Making everyhting in photoshop with render pass make the comp more easy , I have the perfect control so I can adjust everything without long render time. I used different mode in PS like overlay, softlight , multiply to comp all passes in one big file.

HEY ! Here's a render (close to be the final version). Im currently searching to add differents things, accessory, details, BG elements etc... I will try different things this week. In this render image, Ive work a lot on texture and lighting and render pass.. Wait for comments and critic !

Hi!

It looks neat, but to be honest I think it looks too much like Bobby Bubble. Both the colouring and the eyes are eerily similar. Perhaps brothers seperated at birth? ;)

I think maybe you could add a second strong element (another character that "doesn't fit", or something that the fish can be using?) and bring about a bizarre juxtaposition, thus fitting even closer into the challenge theme.

You've got around three months left. Use them!

I am really liking how this is going, though I do have to agree that it needs something a little more to fit with the theme, as Mibus already stated.

Though not sure what that element might be, whether its a set of false teeth, a love note to his beloved Fisherman, or is he making sure no one sees him playing with his humans in a snowglobe. =)

Hi! So nice to see u in this challenge as well. The creature itself looks great, but I have to agree with Mibus. The character looks pretty much the same as ur previous Bubble. The undersea environment, despite there is really little of it, is awesome and that blue is worth keeping if u change the creature or not. I hope to see more of ur work soon! good luck!

HEY! Thanks for comments and suggestion guys, that’s really cool! I got and Idea about add element to this character… to remove the bobby bubble look J, I will try to created a tiger head over his head, like a hat but that’s will be a tiger mouth open like the image I’ve pick on the net … That’s will be more stylise than the picture I’ve found, but thats the idea, just try to imagine it in your head J

Well, I for one don't see anything wrong with him looking like Bobby Bubble, who is, after all, the poster child for Strange Behavior. So making a character that looks related to him has to qualify for the Challenge, right? As for their eyes looking similar, it wouldn't look like Patrick's work if it didn't have the exact same eyes! I was checking out your gallery yesterday - great stuff in there! And very consistent in the optical department. :)

The part that I find could use a bit of touch-up is the... well, i don't know what it is? Horns? Ears? Or a shell that happens to be floating right behind his head? The way it's textured, and the fact that it doesn't seem to blend in with the head but instead sits behind it, makes it look like this last guess, but thatg's the one that seems least likely too. If I'm correct and it is just a random shell, why is it there? If it's supposed to be part of his head, maybe there are some ways that you can pull out the skin on either side a bit to have it flow more from head to horn/ear?

Anyhow, just a thought. Lovely work!

Mibus : Great suggestion my friend ! The other character will be the tiger on his head or maybe somes little crazy crab around him... (Idea from Jonathan Simard.. thanks man !) ... I will add other little character, I think thats now necessary :)

mim-Armand : Bubble are great idea I think buts maybe its to much same as my bubby bubble, I dont whant to reproducce the same character so I will use different element than bubble... but thats for the idea man!

I will try to work on the expression too for the next post, try to give more personality to the character, maybe more stupid look. My concept need to have a ''cute'' animal with a agressif look (tiger look camo)...

Patrick, your creature looks very nice... i think you could try another color, i think that the color is leading to bobby bubbles, if he were yellow, probbably this impression could be gone, about the eyes, i dont know, they are like a mark of your style... i like them as it is...

Here's an update of my character, Ive added some fur on the body, adjust shape of the eyes, ajust the outline of the head and finaly play with contrast and colors on the images. Ive added some detail too ... The concept have change a lot since the last post, thats was a tiger fish but now thats a freaky creature, its a mixte between a crab, a worms and a deer. Thats my stange behavior !!! I will add some element the finalize the picture, like add some crazy white hair on his head like a cone... I think thats will be cool , im really close to finish the picture... update comming soon !!

VHASE: I think Its not weird to participate to this contest, Ive participate for fun like other artist, the subject is so cool, I whant to participate too ! They used my image to promote this contest and what I can do other than say... YES YOU CAN USE MY IMAGE FOR PROMOTE IT ! Thats a great opportunity for me to show my work with Bobby Bubbles to promote this contest, and the theme of this contest is so nice, so I just whant to create something too like other artist. I know this character have something looks like bubby bubble, thats my creation so this character have my style (big eyes :) ) , and I dont whant to do something different of my style for thats, I just whant to participate to this contest and have fun like other strange behavior contester ...

Hi Guys !
Here's the final image ! Ive added some smoke in the background, work a lot on the facial expression, add some fear on the facial shape. The concept have change a lot since the start of this contest, like I said in my last post, its a strange creature, a mixte between, a crab, a worm and a deer. Thats a big monster living on the earth, but He got a problem... he's affraid to be alone, cause fear of the dark... So every night, this big monster cry till the sun come out :).

I love it. I think the colors and composition are perfect and that facial expression is priceless :)
I like that you don't know what he's looking at, but maybe it would have been fun to make another strange creature, something tiny and harmless, for him to be scared of. Just a thought. You have a great image as it is.

Very nice image! Another great character comming from your "hands..." I have a crit for you as well. Not sure if the last "wrinkle" on the body is mouth shape or not, but I actually do see it as mouth. That way it is fighting with "fear" expression from my POV. I see something like "he is shy"... dunno, if I cover it, it's definitelly better. Good luck :thumbsup:

It would be really nice to see another character, even if would be really small and not detailed, a fly or something, just to make some kind of relationship between them and to help explain the whole situation to the viewer. good luck!

Squeezestudio: My first idea was to created a new character to add in this picture but, I dont have enought time for that, and with his new facial expression and final look , Im happy with the final result. I really like the characters design, it just seems like an unfinished piece. There isn't really a context, so I'm wondering what behavior is being exhibited, and what is strange about it.

I get that the character itself is strange, but the character is just looking behind himself (or herself) in an empty space. Don't get me wrong, its a terrific piece, I just don't understand how its even in the realm of this competition.
