Hey there,
I'm looking for a way how to make particles self collide.

Does anyone know how to?

Bye,
Luka

since maya is limited in this task there is a work around.

apply a radial field to the particles and switch on (in the field) apply per vertex.
use max distance to determine the collision boundary.

happy colliding

ps.

totally forgot. after applying the field to the particles select both and under fields chose: use selected as source. this will parent the field to the particles. then go on with apply per vertex etc.

Hello,
thanks for the quick reply, but I just cannot apply the option "Apply Per Vertex".

Bye,
Luka

edit:
ups, didnt read your edit.

huh? what do you mean you cannot set apply per vertex to on??? you cannot type 1 in the channel box?

Is it possible when they self collide that they also can stack above each other?

The way explained is somehow not working.

Copied and pasted from a friend's howto:

Create a radial field, make it affect the particles, set it's max distance to a bit more than the radius of the particle, make it's magnitude really big, then make its attentuation 0, THEN select it and the particle object and pick Fields -> Use Selected as source of field, then FINALLY, in the attribute editor for the radial field, turn on "apply per vertex". (Phew.) All of that will cause each particle to emit a radial field that pushes away every other particle. But it'd take a lot of tweaking and good luck to make it look good.
