Hi Guys

We are currently modeling an onion, for a client, who wants it to peel away as part of a 30 second spot. The animation will focus on the onion solely and so the peel and onion need to look good!

We are currently stumped on where to start with this peel animation, any suggestions?

stages:

1. onion drops onto shot
2. outer skin peels away
3. first couple of onion layers peel away

I think i have seen this on a couple of spots before, (toyota, mainly cars actually) but we are looking at this from a much closer and intimate angle, so the animation needs to look really clean!

cheers for any advice or help,

James

the though that comes to mind to me is to weight the onion peel and layers to a IK bone chain or a curve. Modeling the layers that peel off seperatly

Yea thanks for the reply, we thought about that method too, and have started by modeling the skin to cut up.

We have had some pretty good previz results using the old Splutterfish plugin 'twistomatic' so this might be an easier, quciker method for us.

cheers
