Just fishing up final touches on some models and rigging them at the moment, but I"m almost ready to begin animating for my 3D animation reel. No I already have some good 3D content both in linetest and completed versions, but what for a 3D reel should I have? I mean you wanna show the essential things, walking, emotions,acting/character, something involving weight/forces, I was thinking of actually taking advantage of cinema 4D's new OGL features to actually get some great shots for the reel right out of the editor itself, as well as some simple rendered, I'm not texturing my models, save maybe simple colours, Any suggestions recomendations? As well, I"m aiming at 2 minutes including credits, for showing both 2D and 3D content in one reel, is that too short you think? after the main reel I would of course include my classically animated film in its entirety.

Hey thanks a bunch, some goon info on portfolio's there too, but I've read a few articles with much of the sameinformation. They are all a little general for everyartist, so I know most those tings, I"m aiming at a two minute reel max showing both 2D and 3D animation. Iwas hoping more for suggestions of what specifically I should aim for getting don n the 3d portion of my reel.

Thanks for the link though.

If you are a 2D animator use that and play to those strengths when creating 3D content. I for one know that tonnes of employers love 2D animation training because it [usually]demonstrates a deeper understanding of animation fundamentals...

the biggest thing I feel you can do for yourself is make sure that you SHOW what you know you can do in 2D in 3D...show that your knowledge seamlessly transfers over to pixels...BUT you do not have to show that with mere excercises alone...we see far too many reels full of excercises and none with acting and performance animation...be sure to have a blend for both [but do not show a 2D weightlift and a 3D weightlift on the same reel] ;)

another thing to keep in mind...if your 2D stuff is not coloured...show it towards the end of the reel...bookend your reel with your best 3D stuff...open with a bang, close with a bang.

thanks a bunch, now to spend some time n the rigging forum before I come back here for crits :)

So you think it would be fine to mix my coloured classical stuff with the 3D stuff as long as I keep the penciltests to the end because of their lackin colour.
