How can i get some hair to follow a polygon object?

I setup some strands of polygons as hair on a character and styled some hair according to those strands. I would like the strands to work like the old shave and haircut use to. I could have the polygon strand effect the strands of hairs.

I want to control the polygons with bones and have the hair follow.

Hmm so noone's got any ideas on how to do this? Bummer.

If it can't be done then i "informally" request this feature be added to the next update of HAIR. :)

I'm not sure that I follow what it is that you want, the image isn't clear and nor is the explanation. HAIR follows the polygons that it's on anyway if they're deformed by bones or whatever.

You're right my explaination is not very good. Lets see if i can do a better job.

In the picture the hair is growing only out of the few polygons to the right. This makes about 1000 hairs coming from there. What i would like them to do is follow the flow of the rest of the geometry. Then like in shave and haircut i could control the geometry with bones and the hair will follow.

The example from shave and haircut i am thinking of is the braided hair example. I can't find a link for it though.

Ah ok, as I recall the braids example worked by basically locking the hairs in place. In HAIR you can just do this by turning off dynamics, if you really need hair that deforms then make the HAIR object generate polygonal geometry and give it a standard material with the HAIR shader used in it's illumination channel, normal deformers will deform the hair object now. Another alternative to explore would be use the spline dynamics and spline constraint tag from the HAIR tags and applying HAIR to them instead (or even you may find some beenfit to using a spline guide as a "Points Link").

Ok thanks. I'll give those ideas a try.
