Hello,

My star wars tribute turned out not to good but learned alot and am going to try again in this challenge. My subject will be a sperm whale(Physeter macrocephalus) vs a colossal squid(Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni). This isn't something that anyone would see on the national geographic channel but I will be making it as realistic as I can guess it would be.
Here is a screenshot of it so far (the scale is not set yet), this is just a screen of them both together for info. All modelling so far has been done in silo. I will try and use xsi for rigging to pose them. (The whale currently has 2 blowholes but that is just so the model plays nicely with silo's symmetry modelling. the real whale only has one).

Hello,

here are some constrution screens on the whale

started out in silo 2 and blocked out the shape with the polygon tool

extruded the polygon

from the top view moving the points into a rough shape

using the cut tool to split the whole thing into quads

adding the tail

more loops and added fins and the eyes

http://haphazardcash.com/images/hmc10/resizedspermwhale10b.png

worked on the shape a bit and then subdivided and refined mesh to have enough geometry
to rig in xsi.

here is the skeleton put together in xsi

Here is a quick test for posing , still needs lots of work on the enveloping. I think I have too many deformers.

Hi. Its me...from the other whale vs squid thread.

Looking great so far. I like the way you biuld your model up. What program is that?

You definately need to get rid of the nostrels on the whale though. And also the eye may be too large. The eye on my whale is smaller but I think mine is too large also. So i might have to go back and redo that. but we'll see.

Great work and keep it up.http://forums.cgsociety.org/images/icons/icon13.gif
