View Full Version : Mac + PC = NetRender?
I need to go portable and am going to invest in MacBook.
Can I hook it up with PC to use NetRender?
My desktop is AMD processor, will that cause problems if i use C4D in windows by bootcamping the MacBook? I recall there were some issues that made it impossible to netrender if there were both AMD and Intel chips in different computers (or did I get it all wrong:))
cheers

never a good idea to mix platforms, it may be a little more reliable nowadays with the mac using intel cpu's, not sure, but even an AMD mixed with an intel on a pc networks can have minor differences with areas that don't play well. Things to watch out for are things like GI, Thinking particles uncached simulations (hair, dynamics, cloth) and mocca's Soft IK. If you want to use net learn how to cache simulations, bake mograph and use mograph to bake thinking particles. This will grealty help you to make things more stable across net, but they also mean more memory and network bandwidth.
Yes, I thought that baking would be the only key to success.
Thanks for the reply. Guess I go the easy way: Render half in PC and other half in MacBook, then combine the whole lot, but will try the baking+Netrender first.

Run a small test of something. Most of the time things work but sometimes they don't. I only bake after testing if I need it, although stufflike hair and cloth explicitly state that you should bake first before going to NET. Baking also has the advantage of speeding NET renders up.
