Here's another practice animation. Trying to get some smooth, realistic motions. Let me know what you think.

Good start, can I suggest rendering a side view of your animation so we could better see your poses. Also you’re missing a pose or two in the jump. Try researching what poses should be in a jump and add them in.

I would also suggest watching some reference videos on people walking up stairs. When I think of someone walking up stairs I feel more of a heel toe step then a toe heel step like you have. Unless your character is running up the stairs then toe all the way. I maybe wrong on that but that's my first thought on it.

But if you can post a side view that would help a lot.

Hope that helps some.

Keep it up.

Wow, thank you, I will get a side render. Where can I find reference videos for walking up stairs and jumping poses and that stuff? That would be very useful, but I don't know where to begin looking.

I'm not to sure where would be a good place to get some reference videos on, there kinda everywhere. But you might wont to video tape your self walking up stairs or try youtube.

For jumping your going to have to research some websites online or check out a few books.

Also here's a good post that has tons of links. One might help you out

Is this a rig you created? Does it have any toe attributes? If it is you may want to download some ready to animate characters, there's a ton online. Plus there's a good post under Animation in CGtalk that lists a bunch of websites to go to.

My point is if your going to focus on animation don't use a rig that you made until you know how to make a proper rig with all the goodies. Download one and use that. This should give you a lot more tools to work with.

wow, I didn't know I could download a rigged character. That would be incredibly useful. Yes I did make the rig myself, and no, I don't have any toe attributes, just a simple reverse foot control. But I'll look that up, thanks a lot.

Hey there,

That's a pretty good start there.

Two things that will help out quite a bit to start off with:
On the first jump, he needs some anticipation to his jump. He needs to crouch first before he springs forward.

Secondly, he needs to lean forward while running up the stairs. Technically, when a person runs, he/she's constantly out of balance and having to catch his/herself--or so I've heard :).

I think those two things are good places to start on for improving this animation.
Good luck!

hmm, I see your point blakbox, I will try that out. And thank you chris for those pointers, I found some great rigged characters to use. I'll get started on those soon.
