View Full Version : problems rigging character
technoguy 04-07-2002, 05:22 AM Hello!
I am trying to rig this character but i am stuck on the legs. Below is a picture. I am not sure if i placed enough joints. I also tried adding an ik handle from the hips to the ankle but it doesnt work properly. If i set the preferred angle on the knee joint it works but the other joints will move forward...any ideas?
thank you
:)

I setup a character with the same type of leg. I put an IK fromhis hip too the ankle, then I also used the reverse foot setup to controll the foot. You can also put in some pole vector constraints in front of the knees that are parented to the root to ensurre that they stay in front of the character and to keep the knees from flipping.

Make sure your joint orientation is in the right direction(tip: if you hit the scale tool on a selected joint it will show the local rotation) it faster then going into component mode
You may also want to bend the knee back and set the perferd angle then mov it back...the ik needs a angle to solve
if it bends weird on the up stroke try setting limits this helps with ik chains with more then 2 joints ... very much so when each joint is opposed like your leg
pole vector constraints.... good idea as welll
