the light setup: there is just an area light very near the eye and a spot light from the back but without producing shadows.

Well, when I started with this, I was thinking about a still, but I did the short animation just for fun ;) ... so who knows maybe I try something longer:)

yep, thats very cool. has the pupil and iris been removed? (hence the stitches?).

Maybe you could add more liquid... its one of the eyes natural functions to try flush things out with liquid? maybe even a tear?

that might be a bit cheesy though.

Big fan of this one! Gruesome and different. Is it a test for a larger piece? Or a stand-alone animation. Either way, hats off. One thing I noticed was that the lid around the eye, while it deforms really well and the poor guy looks pretty uncomfortable, it doesn't seem as fleshy as it could. The actual lip of the eye seems like it's may have been boned, where it might be more effective to animate it with a deformer of some sort. Just a suggestion! Overall, really great work.
