Ive come to the conclusion that trying to separate the head and body for 2 separate maps is tedious in XSI. Atyss has tried helping me out with this but no luck at all. I tried the Mix_2Colors Node approach with 1 Alpha map and its bogus all around. With alpha map having to be painted black in some regions for the head to show, its often conflicting with the body texture. It seems like I have to paint a really small texture head map for it work. I mean, 64X64 Res Head texture map with a 1024X1024 Res Body texture map. Its ridiculous. Please HELP. Thank you.

Hey man hope I can help.
Try making the body a cluster then making the head a cluster. Then apply seperate materials to both the clusters and finally adding in the images. This would allow you to have 2 512x512 texture maps or whatever you wanted.
Another solution would be to just cut the head off and make it a seperate object but weight it with the body.

Hope this helps. PM me if you have any specific questions.

Can you describe to me what you mean by making the body and head a cluster? I think I know what you meant by applying separate materials to both the clusters but not making them into clusters.

1.
Select all the head polygons

2.
Click on the "cluster" button near the bottom right. To create the cluster, you will want to name this something like head, by default it's named "Polygon". You should also see that the polygons you had selected go white, showing the cluster.

3.
Place a new material on that cluster.
*Note if you accidently unselect that cluster just select the object and then click on the cluster button near the middle of the screen (just above transform). This will pop open a window showing all clusters on that object.

4.
Now add a texture to that cluster.

5.
Repeat 1 - 4 for the body.

Now you'll be able to have 2 sperate materials for the head and the body.. You could do this for other objects like guns or whatever else if you wanted other objects to be more highres.

But how about the UVs? How is that going to work? How do I paint it?
