Hello
does anyone know where I can find info on artwork sizes for bus side/front renders? It'll be for a French single deck bus, but the client doesn't seem to know or have a printer lined up yet (though I am trying to get more info from them). I suspect it won't actually need to be rendered 1:1 because bus graphics aren't art magazines. I was once told for large format that as long as the image contains at least 8000 x 5000 pixels it'll be fine and so far has been, but I don't know if the same goes for bus art. and I haven't found anything here or on the web yet.
Any info to links or from direct experience would be much appreciated :)
Thank you

Go and call a local Sign Maker company. They are making the "bus wrap's". They can tell you exactly what you need. There are also programs for sign makers which help in the design for those stickers considering the geometry of the vehicles. Fun stuff, good luck with your project.

Hello

Contact the bus company the posters are for, they have their own specs depending on the bus vehicle ie Volvo/Ford etc.

As for file size 1:10 size artwork @ 300dpi CMYK
Or 5MB per square metre
As a rough guide your talking about A3-A2 @ 300dpi

Do lots of these, just working on a cgi job now 96 sheet and 48 sheet size.

thanks

Have a look Smart Graphics (http://smartgraphics.co.uk/home.htm?). I worked for them a few years ago.
They have offices in Glasgow and I think there is still one in Reading.

It will depend on whether you are creating the full wrap graphics or just an element to be comped in. They can give you minimum requirement specs and any other info required.

One image I did for a West End musical was roduced at about 9000 pixels tall, and they reproduced that for double decker bus rears and sides, along with a 30ft theatre frontage cutout, and they all looked fine - I think I gave them more res than they needed to be honest! :)

Thanks Adam
I think time permitting I will also give them more, it makes for happy chappies! I bet seeing that 30 foot poser was a good feelig :)

Yeah - although walking around London and seeing the image on buses and in tube stations was the biggest buzz! - well, that and the free bar all night at the premiere! ;D
