The mech is the artificial portion while the airplane and props are all from a real photo.

Does anything not look right?
I'm totally a beginner. So, feel free to school me. :)

the light on the plane is orange and the light on the mech is white, obvious mistake. :)

thnx, Flery

Here is an adjustment where I bumped up the light's tint darkness.

the original tint was taken from the orange/pink mid tones of the photo. the current tint is more toward the blacks, giving the stronger tint.

Anymore?

Micah:)

Here's a reference for a pure white light:

Hey nice :)
I think that the mech is too sharp compared to the slightly blurry background pic... just a thought

Okay, I seprated the forgroundrender from the background image, then blured the FG and added film grain to both in photoshop.

The blur and film grain help the image fit together subtley, but is hard to really see w/ a 20k image.

Thank you for the feed back so far !

I'm particularely concerned about the focal depth of Lightwave's camera since I don't know what the original camera was using... how's the focal depth looking?

Here's the result thus far:

...well, since the goverment cut mech spending, they are only building the helper-droids now w/ the Gundam aesthetic for the sake of nastalgia... ah, the good ol' days.... where have they gone... ;)

I would purposely shift the angle of light slightly to intentionaly throw a shadow from the mech on the nose of the plane. Compositionaly the nose of the plane is attracting my eye too much. Or even shift the mech further to the right to cast the shadow on the nose, it wil help futher recede the plane intot he backgrouns and create a greater depth of field for the mech. To enhance the depth of field even greater, have the handle from a lugage hauler silhouetted right up front and to the left blurred out, give it more of a "tourist snapshot" feel. Also, unless the "person" taking the photo normally uses 800-1200 speed film and the Mech IS walking, there are going to be blurs of motion on the legs of the mech that would be perceptable.

Just a few tips :airguitar

Okay, here's an update.
The main improvement is the shadow falling on the plane's nose in the render, which was a bit of a challenge! :) Also, the crate has been moved and blurred too for better DOF.

2D post production is used for the blur and film grain, again.

Anymore or any better?

Micah:)
