Hi all!!!

Here's a quick speedpaint i did today, in about an hours time, based on the cover of a non-fiction book. Yes, it's Debbie Harry of Blondie...the pose isn't exactly the same...the goal of this was to try painting directly in colour instead of grayscale (which is what i usually do) and see how the shading works out etc...any help on this would be GREAT!! thanks everyone!

PS looking at it now i realize that her left eye looks weird...shmooshed....i'll fix it, but anything else? colours? shapes? shades? thanks everyone!

I like it as a picture of a blonde woman, though her rounded shoulders give her a masculine look. I have to say that I don't see the resemblance to Blondie, though. In her heyday Debbie Harry was quite thin and her hair was straight, cut above her shoulders (at least the way I remember her). I'd expect to see her eyes half-closed, too, looking through those mascara-blackened lashes. Did you use a reference photo or is it completely from memory?

hey Ilikesoup, thanks for the reply!

I did not use a reference this time, no, but here is a picture of the influence for this piece. http://www.geocities.com/seventiesslammer/blondie.jpg

What would you think about the values or colour of this piece? how are the shadows?

Values look great to me. Her cheekbones appear to pop off the "page". Only two areas that look a bit off -- her throat and her left arm. Looks like there's a light source above her and another low one behind her. I think the shadow on her shoulder is fine but the one along her left arm is too dark. Also, her throat should round outward -- it appears concave in your drawing.

o yea, you're right about her throat i didn't even realize that the shadow made it look concave haahha thanks..i'll try to fix up the light source there also.

Thanks for the input.
