Hi.

On my struggle for an answer I found this forum and if someone can help me it's probably you guys.

I started working on a copy of the Dr. House intro. So far I managed to animate all the stuff except for one sequence. for those who don't know what I'm talking about: http://youtube.com/watch?v=zU2awTrEdN0&mode=related&search=

I am trying to animate something that looks like the artery system at about 8. sec. (Lisa Edelstein). Since it is a 3D animation I thought about using the light streaks tutorial from videocopilot.net
( http://ayrshire.creativecow.net/articles/kramer_andrew/nano/index.htm )

apart from the fact, that it might get pretty annoying after a while I find it hard to make lines like these look "organic". I would like to solve the problem using after effects since I don't really have alternative software available - and it's gotta work somehow with ae

if any of you guys knows about a way how to approach the problem, please let me know

This tree looks quite similar, it's not 3D tho...

Some things come the hard way, don't they? ;) That Henry Gray Tree tutorial is a good start as is the one on creativeCOW. If you want to get a more 3D look, you will have to get Trapcode's 3D Stroke and more or less create each branch individually. Using the Taper and Bend options they can be made to look like arteries/ branches and will curve in 3D. However, it will be massive fiddling to align multiple instances of the effect. Placement of the strokes is dependent on the relative placment of the mask on the layer and using the effect-internal transform controls to move stuff in 3D space isn't the most intuitive way, either. Unless you really have to have it in frame for more than a few seconds, it might not be worth all the effort and a simpler solution does the trick just as well.

u can do something similar with particular, set the velocity and emitter size to 0 and give ur particles a motion path to follow, similar to the shape of the lines from the animation and emit auxiliary particles to form the lines. Play with the turbulence field in the air physics to add more organic feel.

It never even crossed my mind to do that. Genius.

Not genius, but obvious. Considering that I even provide a 3 year old "Lightning" setup that uses a similar technique on my website, I feel stupid for not having proposed this. ;)
