I have a character that iŽv textured with the composite material and the maps are making it qiute hevy to work with and especially to render, and there also the small problem of how the composite map look in the viewport in max5. It looks like it its over lighted from all directions, you cant see any shading on the model what so ever(see attachment). Well to remedy this i want to flatten the textures out into one large bitmap. I know abot the plug Flatten from digimation but i wonder if theres any way of doing this manually in max 5.

thanx for any help you can give.

Bake it?

Go to scriptspot.com, aquire the script "Bakersfield", and bake that sucker. Should clear that right up.

There's not even a need for a script, Max5 has texture baking built in. Press '0' on your keyboard and Render to Texture should pop up (or try Rendering->Render to Texture from the menu).

No thad didnt work.. the baked map looked really crazy, wireframes everyware maps on top of eachother. i think it could have to do with the fakt that i made the body and head as two differnt object then i applied morpher to the head and then an edit mesh and attached the body so i dont have to have the whole body as morphtarget. i guesse iŽll just have to take the long rendertimes.

Thanx anyhow.

I suggested the Bakersfield script because it's capable of baking without distorting the underlying UV mapping. The default MAX baker interface has a tendancy to try and do it's own automatic UV mapping, which.. can get messy.

Take one object at a time if you have to, and bake the diffuse channel to a single texture. Morpher and multiple objects and whatnot are no showstopper bugs as far as I know to baking things..
