I'm after some help with the rig that I've created using Mike Comet's Tut supplied with MAX 5 - which I have to say is excellent!
I've come across a problem when I rotate the placement_CTRL - the spine doesn't keep in line with the rest of the body and seems to move faster than the rest of the rig resulting in a mangled torso. I've been through the scripts etc. and everything seems identical except the IK_Spline_Goal settings. In the completed Tut file (char_rigging07.1.max) the IK_Spline_Goal doesn't have an Upnode set in the IK Twist Group - the button has None written on it where as in my file it has HELPER_Spine01 written on. This is really confusing cos I've created about ten different IK splines trying to get it to not automatically assign an Upnode... No such luck! Does anyone know how to do this so an IKSpline doesn't have an upnode? I've also spotted a few lines of text that are slightly confusing me:
Note: Remember everything is always relative to the parent. You will want to see which is the twisting axis. By going to “parent” mode, you will see the true axis that are used for the object.
Verify that the axis constraint is the Z-axis, assuming you created everything in a top view and followed the built-in splineIK creation.
If it’s different, just note that, and change Z to whichever is the twist axis for the rest of the spine setup steps below.
Does this mean everything - Bones, Ik goal, IK Spline helpers? Everything in the spine twists on the Z axis except spine bones 2-5 they're twist axis is X? When it says 'assuming you created everything in a top view' - does this mean the whole IKSpline as well cos in the bone Tut it says to create it in the left view???
If anyone has any idea what could be wrong and/or a solution I'd be really grateful.
