View Full Version : Modeling a rock (noobquestion)
Menderis 07-24-2007, 06:46 PM Hello,
is anybody expirienced in modeling of rocks ?
I never did this before and know I'm wondering if there are any other techniques except the primitive boxmodeling for that...
The rock i'd like to model is like this one on the left ->

any tutorials or suggestions ?
Thanks!
P.S. I'm using max9

That image is a bit small to see anything...
If you want to replicate a specific rock, you'll probably have to do the "primitive box modeling".
If you're talking about a rocky terrain, here might be a good tutorial: SMART TERRAIN (http://www.freespacefilms.com/menu.htm) (under Tutorials).
If you just want to make a rock, you may be interested in this mini tutorial: Creating Rocks (http://forum.cgarena.com/viewtopic.php?t=1274#8350).
Sorry, but I haven't used 3ds Max in a while and was never really proficient in it.

Is this going to be for a still or animation?

the picture you submitted ressembles one of those landscape created in a Landscape generators like Bryce or the othe one whose name I can't remember.

@ oliveUK: maybe you mean: vue (http://www.vue6.com/ple) or terragen (http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/)
both are free for personal use ;)
