hi,

i try to figure out how to deal with collisions for cloud particles at the moment. i have a tube where particles flow in and should collide with the glass then. but it seems that maya only takes the center point of the particles as collision reference. unfortunatly my clouds are pretty big.

i've tried to use an invisble shrinked collsion object but that doesnt work too, because my emitter sits right on the edge of the original object and therefore the particles collide on the outer side.

any ideas ???

hey,

could you use fluids, too ?

as they calculate collisions from the edge ....
also, there is a plugin/script solution for normal maya particles , that need a edge detection/collision.
i could find out the name of this thing, if you need it.

i played a bit around with fluids. i mean they are pretty cool, but then it comes to rendering (in 2k) i will get very old then the rendering will finish. needs some improvements i guess.

i would be interested in the plug, if you could find out :)

yep, in the meantime i already found out.
I hope its exactly what u want :)
(its called intercollisionField)

hey flo..

cool link.

just by chance: i just started to use fluids and i was looking for some tuts on exactely the above problem and a question right afterward as well:
why is maya fluids not good for simulating water (alias tells that not directly but they only say it is good for slow moving and viscious fluids like lava and mud.. )
why that?

cheers

yeh , alex !!!
I hear you !

why dont they call it smoke-and-clouds generator ?!
as any one would suppose fluids to be a fluid generator thing ... :)

last time i tryed to get a water style liquid ...and it wqas super hard to achieve.

anyway , what are you up to ? still h5 ?

speedy :)

hey-- did not know it is you :)

maybe i was a bit distracted you use particles and fluids.. just knew you as an excellent modeler

yeah still kinda at h5.. since it died now welt der wunder.

i am just trying to get a lill more comfortable with my new 4.5 lic.. nothing particular. but thanx

cheers

yes, it is me .....

best luck with your 4.5 , I also got mine a few month ago.
though its just complete. So i can just play with fluids at work (second unit)
and i still dont know why they called it fluids :surprised

anyway, good to hear your are doing fine .
maybe we can all come together for a beer in nachtkantine.
but maybe we should dsicuss this outside the cgtalk forum.

happy scripting , dude !
