The Idea of animation: A cute little girl about 2 years old is playing with toys. She rolls the dices with numbers and leters. Dices stop and create 666 number. Girl is turning into evil satanic girl and kills her toys. She will kill her toys with a yellow pencil. Than accidently she will hit one of dice and turn it form 666 to 66(something). Than she will turn back to normal.

Attached is a first previev of girl model.

I like very much the render of the rabbit toy, the teddy bear. They seems real toys. Very good job. But I would like to tell you a small detail... The repetition of the texture of the wall creates the appearance of vertical brow bars. And it can create the unconsciously impression of the bars of a jail. If that is your intention I do not say anything. But it is not, you would improve a little the texture of the wall. That is the only defect that I can see him. I know that it is a WIP, and surely already you had thought to improve the texture of the wall. All the rest I like it. Good job.

You've got some great shots here, I am a vray user myself, I have also tried to animate in Vray. my last vray anime was about 5 minutes within less about a month time with 8 machines, the average timing vs quality per image i managed to get was about minimum 30 minutes per image (maybe similar to your girl's room). i was wondering how many minutes did you use on rendering each images and how many computers did you use, especially when you know you will be risking your project for good quality animation.

nice animation, keep it up :D

For bottom of walls it is an animated mask form videocopilot Riot Gear FX other is animated noise mask.

@Icelemon. Each frame takes about 15 minutes. some frames are less. I render on 64bit Intel 2.40GHz. Company for which I work (Rock Hunter) lets me render over night if there are any available computers so I have from 1 to 5 computers available. I think 15 min per frame is not bad. If in the shot there is only girls head or we cant see much else I usualy hide everything except main objects and compose it later in after effects. I am glad you like my renders :)

Hi! Good idea with those 666 blocks;)

My five cents:
Try to add music:
"My life" by Dido
this piece should reach its end when girl starts changing
then some spooky sound should fade in like start of "50cc" by Journeyman
and in the end go back to "My life"
I heard that, and it goes really kewl, and think artist let u use sounds in ur short.

Good luck!

Jana

This is the final animation. During last 2 weeks I was tweaking little bits of my animation.
Things that I changed are:
- eye motion when girl looks at blocks with numbers.
- eye motion when girl's eyes turn evil
- eye motion when girl's hair and face change color
- the way button breaks when girl stabs teddy in the eye.
- few tweaks with sounds.

You can download High Quality [55MB] version with quality sound here:

I am very happy with final animation.

That successfully creates scary feel, not doubt. And I like your animation. My main comment would be on overuse of slow motion. I think it works quite well when the dices fall, but other than that I would not recoomend it, takes away the mood for me. But great job overall. All the best for the contest.

r1-381> Thanks :). I worked hard on it and was ready for the first deadline :)

My main comment would be on overuse of slow motion.

I am glad that you like my animation. Nobody ever said anything about slow motion until now. I tried not to overuse it. Perhaps I could speed up one or two shots :), but than again I am very happy with as it is;). I think it is good that animation tells a little story. Although it is short, it has beginning main piece and ending.

ania> Thank you Ania. I appreciate your comment. I think we both did a good job on oour animations :)

Versiden> Thanks. I am trying to learn as much as possible form every project I work on. I improved my lighting skills and my project managing skills. I wanted not only to have little girl doing something strange but also to create very short film. I had to divide animation into 32 shots (some of them i didn't use). In the end I was happy to finish animation before deadline was extended. The additional two weeks allowed me to tweak few little things.

infoarq> I appreciate your comment. I think that cute and bright (almost cartoony) colors at the beginning emphasise the contrast between good and evil girl :)
