Those are some really nice looking models, a great translation of your 2D style into 3D! The only thing I missed is what your concept is. What's the scene? How do all of these characters fit together in a layout? And of course, what is the strange behavious in your image going to be? Just wondering... thought it might be kinda pertinent or something. :D Great looking characters so far...
Good luck!

one suggestion: where the horn meets the head, it gets thinner a little, that doesn't really look organic to me, i think it should get a little thicker there. just an idea, awesome characters, i'm very curious what they'll be doing. i bet it won't be very normal

These are amazing 2d-to-3d translations; wonderful designs supplemented by glorious modeling chops. Darn fast, too. My hats off to you on that :)
I implore you, though, the heed the words of the wise Walrus. This contest is named "Strange BEHAVIOR", and the behavior and its context needs to be the focus. Best of luck in your work!

The Concept:
The scene will be consisted in an antique/knick knack store where on whatnots there will be bibelots which are the characters that I've modeled and keep going to modeling. The bibelots will be seen as they've been broken and the alive creatures such as bibelots themselves will be coming from inside of the broken pieces due to an unusual type of fairy who did this just for fun.
I try to explain briefly about the concept as could as I can, hope you like it. See you!

Here is the birdy bee model and wireframes. As seen on the sketch it has only two legs but the others weren't drawn. On the model it has six. Also the fur on it's neck is more bunchy. May be I can work more on some of the details and as on the sketch some fur can be added on to the body lesser than the fur on neck.

I cant see what concept you're going for with these. But I really like your intial drawing. But, what I'm seeing alot of is, people that can draw, are all going 3D for some reason and are losing your artistic style.
If you can draw THAT good, and it looks like you can, why not just draw it instead of going 3D? Your 3D models look good, but they pale in comparison to your sketches.
I know your just getting started modelling, so maybe I'm just trippin out.
Anyway, I hope you can approach the level of detail in your sketches, because they look faboulous.
Just my two cents.

TwinSnakes - I'm very glad that you like the sketches that much. Also thanks for all the comments. I can say that 2D is one of the steps for 3D and 3D is necessary for 3D animation. So I try to be good at drawing to design the characters well to transfer them into 3D. I like working on both 2D and 3D but I've to say that I have more fun in 3D. That's the reason for me. Thanks!

character sketches.
These characters are so funny! You have some very nice pencil illustrations. I admire your cross hatching work. Yokur 3d work is coming out very nice as well however, one minor thing is that I believe your sketch has a bit more character to "him" in that one eyeball pupil is smaller than the other. It would be nice to have that represented in the 3D model.
Great work!

Hello there,
Your sketches are awesome and your style so fresh and full of character. I love what you are doing and anxious to see them all together. At this point, I don’t see anything wrong to point. On a personal level, I think your 2D work is much more interesting than the 3D, BUT, as I said, it’s a personal thing and your 3D models are really good too.

My girlfriend let out a high-pitched scream when she saw this one (and that's usually a good sign). Very cool characters! I don't know how 3D-illustrators work, isn't it difficult to work without a sketch of the overall composition? Or do you have it all in your head? Anyway, looking forward to see the development of the characters and the old store!

DaddyMack - Thanks! I'm happy for the comments.

Minnhagen - Thank you and your girlfriend very much! Because of the time period and busyness of my other works I could just do the sketches that's shown on my thread. I think the system of concept design and working on it even on 2D or 3D are the same. I guess you've pointed about the necessity for a sketch and you're right. By the way as you've asked; yes I've already had everything in my mind so for now I'm working on the details. On the other hand the scene in my mind has consisted from many details and any sketch couldn't make me feel ok and the possibility of camera/camera angle in 3D is the way that I'll use for the final scene. In a word the concept, all the characters, their sketches and every detail are clear, just the view, camera angle is changeable. Cheers!

Still working on details. The upstairs is almost finished, downstairs part does not finished yet. For the final view some grass on to the floor and pendulous greens coming from the upstairs could be added for providing the atmosphere more unique. Also there will be a vitreous dome. All of these are the elements which are composing the background.

Heyy this is looking fabulous buddy! I love your texturing and basic lighting, thumbs up to his various skin tones, and moderate looking hair. I see that you've changed his horn too, which i think is working better. If i had to be picky, I'd say some simple hairy bump map on his tail could look better. Now they look a bit chunky I think.. woa man that's pretty cool! You got a way with 3D that makes it look really organic and edible :D I especially want to compliment on your use of 3D fur. It looks both very natural and pretty, something i hardly see. I think my only issue is that I'd like to see specular shine on the eyeball to make it look like eye more, which is a very easy fix. Hope this fur won't hit you hard with render times, since I remember you've said this is an animation entry aswell...
btw thanks for stopping by my thread again!!! It was buried in pages already... I'll remember the favor :D

Hey Soner, woooww i like a lot your models !! great style, and that bee is superb!!. I agree with Jeff and Mark about the specular light (and perhaps for "legs", head and antennas a bit more sepecular too, only a comment:) ) Again awesome work mate!! Cheers

Ferx - All comments are welcome. Thanks! Cheers!
Thank you all guys! for specular shine on the eyeball comments, I agree with you.
This was just a test render and this isn't the final poze so in this poze the light didn't
effect on the eye, everything will be better in the final image.
But thanks for attentive investigations. Cheers!

I'll consider about your suggestion for the colour of eye. Good luck! I'm looking for your progress too.
mosena - Thanks man! I'm glad that you like the fur. Briefly I could tell about the fur:
I've used maya fur. A correct UV map is needed and for the colour differences I did partitions on some areas on the map and the model. By using the fur options as "Density, length, scraggle & etc.'' good results can be received.

Hey Ashitaka, it's all coming together! Awesome man, at last, the clues of your final image...
I'm loving the atmosphere you're going for here, and 2 things: Maybe the whole image is a bit too yellow at the moment, and i know that this is a wip so please feel free to ignore that. The other thing is the clock may be a little too shiny/reflective, which differs it slightly from the other characters. i don't know how you render your specularity and reflection, but applying a cloudy opacity mask to those, could make the clock look a little more used, as if the polish is worn out at some parts. At the same time, you may be going for a "brand new clock" look, rather than a "used" one; i guess in that case I'd try to tone down the overall reflections/specularity a little bit, so that they won't over-power the model and the texture that much. Trying to blur the reflections can also work nicely. but again, you know what you are going for, and I'll just sit and watch until what's in your head unravels :D

authentic – Thanks Vincent! for your all support since from the beginning. By the way I'm glad about your attentive look, yes the left front leg is a little bit up. Sometimes some bibelots could be unstable so they wouldn't stand properly. For this reason after the challenge I would like to finish the animation of them and this instability may be a part of it. infoarq - Hi Tomas! Thank you and your lovely daughter Ester!
Her painting is sooo cute. I'm so glad that she likes it that much
and please tell her that I'll textured one of that character with
her style after the challenge.
She makes me smile on this busy Monday! Thanks!
Dutchman - Hi Gijs! Thanks for your nice comments.
By the way Ester is Tomas Aceytuno's daughter
(not mine, I wish I would have a lovely one in the future).
Tomas Aceytuno's challenge thread is:
Stranger Behavior - Say MOOOO!! (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?threadid=513868)
His style is unique so his daughter's too.
Time goes by and I'm working hard with this and the others! Oh my!
MartinNielsen - Yes Martin, I'm agree with you, it will be my inspiration.

Here is the almost finished scene. May be one another model could be added if I could have enough time. Otherwise after the compositing phase the scene will be finished. It looks more yellow may be but I prefer that because of the magic dusts' lights. I'm still working on so some points are still changeable.

This looks really magical Soner! you've done a great job putting this together... the image is a bit too yellow for my taste I guess, giving some other hues to some objects subtly, could make it richer I think, but since that's what you're going for i'll shut up about that, and start seeing the piece as it is meant to be :D
the bee's feet look like they could use a subtle specular shine. Also, if you rigged your characters' faces already, you could try playing with their eyebrows/eyelids to create more dynamic and varied expressions. one last thing is the shine on the clock keeps me from seeing its face clearly. I'd have a hard time making its face if I hadn't seen your previous posts. As usual feel free to ignore these. but I thought I should point out what I see, since it's the last week :O
This will be an amazing piece, your future daughter will love it!
Waiting for the grand finale!

I like the yelloww - it is the magical colour :)
I agree about adding some highlights to the bee's legs to define them more. And I wonder if you could have the 'live' unicorn-like toy looking into the eyes of the one that is not yet alive to increase the connection there and show more that it is alive and aware of its surroundings?
Good luck for the end.

Jeffparadox - Hey Jeff thank you so much for your helpful comments
and great support!
I'm agree with your comments and I wish I could have enough time to
change them but I've been working 7/24 for these days and may be I
could do some simple changings at all even I've already rigged the models.
But I don't know, if I could have time to get new renders I'll definitely do
the changings. Otherwise I could do some changings just with compositing!
Thanks again!
gpepper - Thanks Gilles! You're right, her texture is definitely cool!
infoarq - Hehehe, best wishes to you and to lovely Ester! Thanks!
MartinNielsen - Wow Thanks Martin!
authentic - Thank you so much Vincent! Pose of the bee could be better
yes, I understand you. Even I've no time to do that kind of changings but
when I start to do this concept's animation I'll wait for your helpful
comments, feedbacks again! Thanks! Cheers!
Ordibble P. Lop - Thanks David! I'm glad if you like the magical yellow
atmosphere. I could change the yellow a little bit in the end. I understand
all about your other suggestions and as I told Jeff and Vincent, I wish I could
have time to do all. Because I'm all agree with all of you.
Ahhhh! Time is everything!

This is so nice and warm, I love yellow atmosphere an you got ti down just fine! all buzz and spectatives you created with your first nice sketches were met completely!!
Funny, not as much 3D entries as I supposed there'd be... and yours and few others manage to go beyond the photo realism and crate a real mood, seeing this I just wanna try somethig in that direction for the next one (hopefully)...
I still like the little clock so much... he sorta looks like a wee mouse...

'Priceless Friends'
In an ancient, forgotten antique store; there were twangs, clinks and clacks that were started after the long silent years. Also a weird and unexpected visitor was there too. The unexpected visitor was an unusual fairy which looked like he was just trying to find something that he had lost. The weird fairy was trying to find friends whom he had neither found nor lost. But wherever he looked at he couldn't find any living thing in that place. The place was just full of bibelots and trinkets with price tags on them. However he wanted to have friends more than anything else. So he decided to use his ability. An ability that ensures him to do whatever he wants with his magic dusts. So he started to hang around, look around and kick up around to choose the bibelots that he liked the most in all around the store. Just at that moment all the twangs, clinks and clacks were started. After their lifeless years all the bibelots that the weird fairy chose began to come alive gradually with all that noises under a magical dust rain. The bibelots were all confused about what was happening to them when they came alive. Also the weird fairy was confused too because of a bibelot which one got alive as a mistake. It was the bee one, the most scary creatures for the fairy. But may be this time he could be a friend of a bee.

Hey Ashitaka, kardesim,
You've completed such an amazing piece, with a heart warming story! I just love the magic in your image, it's so dreamy and peaceful (something we really need these days, in the harsh reality of the wars going on)
I've been watching your posts from the very beginning, and gotta say that you have very rigid skills dude! I didn't see one unnecessary line in your sketches, or a chip in your models so far. the way you've handled 3D is organic, it's warm, and it works on many levels. Your illustrations are adding much to this society, and now you've contributed another one. I'll be waiting for more from you, best of luck with the judging dostum...
Congrats!

Hey man, great job on the finished piece. It looks really fuzzy and cute. The characters are also very well designed and going by all the previz images you put in they were clearly well thought off. My only comment would be its palette right now. Maybe a bit to focused on the warm end of the spectrum, but again, maybe thats what you were going for. All in all, awsome piece and you are rewarded for your hard work!

Hi to everyone again! Finally I had some time to add some changings to my final.
Not much but it was what I wanted to change if I could have time to do and so
I changed the bee's antennas. In the old version they were seem like one and I
rendered them in this new position and they are apart to each other now.
Thanks to everyone who have been in my thread with their great and kind supports!
Good luck and best wishes to everyone!
Cheers to all!
Hey Soner, nice change, i agree with you about bee´s antennas, now it looks simply cool !!
