Hi guys;

I’ve been visiting CG for 3-4 years now, but never had time to join, now that I’m starting to work at a gaming related company, i need to step up my knowledge from 2D to 3D.

I've been working on animations and designs for 8 years, and the fact that i worked as a creative director made me know some information about 3D, and even made some simple modelling/animation myself, but mostly with 3D max and swift 3D.

Now, the past years, I’ve been hiring others to do my complex 3D, but time has come for me to take a step forward, there isn't any good 3D schools in my town, so i need to teach myself, like i taught myself everything else, I’m not an art school graduate, i graduate from engineering school, so i studied the engineering part of multimedia, but decided to work on design at the end.

Now with all of that said, my questions are:

1- what program should i start with, i have some 3D max knowledge, but if Maya, lightwave are better, i would sure switch, i need a tool that will stay with me on all levels, something i can work with on games or movies later on.

2- I'm using PC- alienware area 51- am i limiting myself, should i consider moving to MAC?

3- I'm the type of guys who can make many stuff at the same time, so i was willing to learn modelling/animation/texturing...etc, is it possible that i will be able to do that?

i guess this is it for now, sorry if this is not the right forum for that kinda questions.

Hey man glad to see you joined the forums, I've been a bit of a lurker myself. As to your questions...
The programs, I would say gain up more and more knowledge on max while toying with other programs like maya and xsl for games and all 3 plus zbrush or mudbox for detailed 3d work. I know thats alot put like most might say just sample each and see what works best for you.

The computer I can't really give a good answer here but, me personally I would say PC, just for the fact that PC's are more easily upgradable. Again pretty much up to your preference.

As to what to learn, I'd say take it one step at a time, it'd proably be easier to absorb everything.

Sorry I wasn't able to help to much, but hopefully I've been able to help you out at least a little bit.
