what is the best or right Way, to make this structure like on this shoe?

Let`s say we want an Close Up from this Shoe like on this Photo or maybe still closer.

Displacement, bump or normal map. I would recommend against modeling that texture hehe.

thats a really nice shoe! how many polygons is that right there?
i like all the layers.
usually peoples cg shoes look all lumpy, but yours is pretty slick!

Shoe looks awseome man. I really can't wait to see this thing with the textures on it. I know this seems odd (well to me) but awesome job on the shoe!
