I've been working on this guys surface for about two weeks now (between my day job), and you are welcome to critique the character. Please refer to the original thread for questions of its origin.

I think I'm going to make his walk more threatening after I'm finished texturing.

This is looking great, must be a huge task to Rig, UV, and texture. But you seem to be putting it together very well.
Looking forward to seeing the progress on this one.

I was supprised to see that the tounge has the hard bark texture on its entire length... i would think a fleshy tounge w/ a bark tip would be more practicle... or maybe segmented bark, like chain link?

Anyways, those pictures totally say:
"Hi, my name it Matt and I have patience."

The texture is coming along greatly. Can we see the texturemap itself?

Sure, I'll be showing some of them when I'm finished.

fantastic texture, though I feel its too consistant. Just about any animal on the face of the earth has a diferent pattern to its face than the rest of the body, maybe a lighter bark or more moss effect, I think it needs more fungal colors added to it. If this were animated under low light conditions, I think alot of the detail in the face would get lost and blend into the rest of the body.

Look forward to seeing this done!

Ya, I'm in the process of cutting into the texture, and breaking it up.
I'm looking forward to being finished too!

I was able to work on the upper arm today. I was delayed for a short while, but was able to do some texturing.

I'm not sure I like the gray texture on the forearms. :p

hehe, uhm, on the serious side, I think the green in the arm section could use better detailing now. Just looks like a straight color map so far and I'm wondering what the substance is... moss... fungi... soft troll skin... needs more texture IMHO

Micah

This is coming together real nice.. my only problem is the texture seems all the same, take the arm for example: it looks like its wrapped with branches, you should paint a dark bark on those outward bulges(or branch looking part), then keep the green foilage for the deeper areas if you get what i mean.

Keep it up!

About the walkcycle:
I'd emphasize the weight and size more. When the heel hits the ground, the whole body should absorb the impact, as if he weighs half a ton. Maybe exaggerate the shoulder movements as well.

I really like your textures, btw, but i agree that more unique features like maybe moss, leaves and other dirt would really bring out the detail.

Yup, I got what you mean. I'll be adding more contrast, the textures, as a whole, are by no means finished.

The walkcycle will be remade, and even re-boned for more control over the shoulder area. Thanks for noticing. As far as looking heavier, I agree. When I made this walk test I was testing teh ability to use his toes, which ofcourse makes him "light footed".

I will be adding mosses, fungi, grasses, etc. Like I said earlier, I will be using a hair program to grow the mosses/grasses, and the same program to instance fungi (I was running into errors with my early tests, but it will be done eventually).

Ok, today I unwrapped the upper legs, painted the color and bump maps. Lower legs and feet and all that's left to unwrap, then I'll spend some time making all of the textures more cohesive.

Alright! This will be my last render for a few days. I have to do some work for my client, which, unfortunately, I'm forced to postponed my progress.
But, the next logical step is texture map clean up, and then simulations.

I remember one of you wanted to see an example of a texture map.
Here is the Bump map for the upper legs.

Actually, I already made a walk cycle. The link is in the first message of this thread.
walk (http://www.stoehrsartstudio.com/Walk_v2-4.mov)

I think about about his character being heavier on its heels, yet much faster than an ent. This creature is fast and fierce when it is stirred enough.
