hehe

well thats the reason i used quicktime.. so people can use the slider manually with instant updates .

This is good work. Not only because the model is convincing, but also because the design is viable. so many of the concept cars are of designs not likely to be built in the next ten years. Your design could be seen tomorrow without suprise.
Id love to see a wire frame.....

thanks for the reply essahc - my goal with this model was to make a more sporty version of a mercedes slk 230, i'm glad to hear that you like it

btw. this is my first attempt at making a car.

I will try to post some wires when I get home from school

very nice model! you've got a natural flair for car design... did you say you went to school?? how old are you?!

i have a small personal crit.. i noticed the wheel arches are sticking out quite a bit more than the wheels... which i can understand if it was on a family car.... but for some reason when i think of a sports car a road hugging one.. i'd wanna see the wheels flush with the arches

so i reckon widen the wheels or just bring them outwards a tad

lookin 4ward to seein updates

EDIT - wait just one second... the wheels are different in the 360 ani

what's the deal? which is newer.. the pic or the ani? cos the ani's wheels are tonnes better

Hehe Dave :D

Thx for the critique. And yes you are right, the weels have a pretty odd placement in the picture :hmm: Because i forgot to arrange them probably after replacing the Rims

Btw. Im 17 years old. :wavey:

I'll update the preview picture in a bit. Right now I am rendering a 360 animation with the car in shaded wireframe.

SteffanPoulsen
03-26-2003, 08:28 PM
Ok. 360-wireframe animations has been added to the top

A bit worse in quality since im not a big fan of day long rendertimes :D

btw. I used Edgemap from www.snotmonster.com

May i just say thats is one lovely peice of modelling there, very nice design as well. And for some one who is still quite young. I can see you wont have much of a problem getting a job in later years. I do have one crit though, i was watching the animation when i noticed i could see right through the alloys, please oh please could you either add some sort of axel bar or just blank it of behind the wheel. it was the only thing that made me think this wasnt real. Keep up the good work though.:buttrock: :buttrock: :buttrock: :bounce:

Thx for the reply guys !

Wolfy2525: If you look closely at the preview pic's you can see that its already fixed :D
I will definately update the 360 anim later... but not in the mood for a 15+ hour render right now :hmm:

Gorgeous Car!!! Very sporty, very stylish! and very original!!

:applause:  :applause:  :applause:

One thing i might consider, would be adding detail to the rear panel (where the exaust is) grills, license plate etc.

Excellent work Steffan!! wots the car for?

Daveaustin
03-27-2003, 10:45 PM
lookin damm fine!!
and you're only 17:surprised

i got another question for ya:D
is this car gonna have a roof? if so have you taken into account where it's gonna be stored and the mechanism that opens it?! cos at the mo i can't see anywhere where it could go... guess i've just answered my own question:surprised

i can just see it driving through the sunny streets of Cannes or Nice in the riviera!!

PS.. some nice aluminium/titanium mountings would go a treat around the exhausts just as ai_jai said

an ai_jai... the license plate is already there.... says "MAX 4 3V3R"
..Steffan, please change it! makes me wanna cry..

SteffanPoulsen
03-27-2003, 10:59 PM
ai_jai : thx ! :scream: and I think that you are right about the rear. It definately needs some grills ! thanx for making me aware.

I am just making this car for fun/practice

Dave : Thx again dave
now to answer your question. At the moment i dont think that I will make a roof  But only time can show for sure.

hehehe about the licence plate.. I am very sorry it was late and I couldn't really get my mind to make anything original.... so I just went mainstream :D No worries tho it will be changed soon..
I think that i will go with some german licence plates. Dont know why but I really like the look of them. :surprised

Highres render will be posted first thing tomorrow. Right now I am gonna hit the sack !

Dave: errrr, yeh:hmm: i kinda noticed it, but then obviously kinda didn't!! doh! although, its more of a car label, than a propper license plate(i had to defend myself, dont want anyone figuring out im a noob, its my dark secret)

Steffan: you're 17 man!!!!!!!! oh my! congrats on makin an awesome car model, especially with it being ya own design! i have seen loads of cars modelled, but not many original ideas.:applause:

Truly nice work!

Looks good, man! :buttrock:

The rear spoiler doesn't really do it for me though. Can't get much down force with that, unless it's on a lawnmower :p

Anyway - I'll CG-race ya, when we're done with our cars ;)

Stephan I noticed sommat on your hires render that didn't look quite right.... i'm not sure if you've designed it to be like this..

but i'm not sure the curve flows properly, kinda looks as if somethings dented it

Hmm... that indeed looks odd :hmm: Dont think that it is a modelling error... my guess would be that the HDRI map is kinda ****ed up.

But thx for making me aware of the problem :surprised I'll try to fix it soon.

I looks great!
Are HDRI maps your only source of lighting? How did you make them?

SteffanPoulsen

Didn't have much time to work on my car for the last couple of days... but here is a little update anyways. :surprised
(The brakes came out a little bit glossy. will be corrected soon)
As always critique is very welcome !!

First post updated with new 360 + new preview pictures

hi SteffanPoulsen
are you ok!??!
so..
I wanna know one thing..
Did you use hdr on those pictures?
Cose I doing a car model and Im in trouble with the hdrs cose I put the image on environment , put light tracer(max 5) on with bounces =2 .. but I dont want the background to display the image... I wanna do like you did on the imagem that Daveaustin spoke about..
did you understand?
that imagem the the car is at a blue floor but shows some reflections..
can you talk about?
thanks a lot!

Hi BluesManJF.

Yea I use HDRI.
To avoid seeing the background image. I place the car in a "Bowl" and point the camera a bit down...

I uploaded a picture of the "bowl" to illustrate my point a bit better.
http://www.steffenmoller.dk/3D/Bowl.jpg

And lol zwartz and Viper ! :D
Crawl back to the holes wench thou came. !! :shame:

hiiiiiiii
thanks a lot!
i did something like that... but a made a dome and cut some polys from the top..
but the results were very bad..
iŽll try in your way!
thanks!
ops..
can you answer one more thing?
what kind of material have you used on the windows?
i used "translucent shader" but is seems that it have little reflections..
thanks!

SteffanPoulsen
04-01-2003, 12:17 PM
The window-texture is just a basic "Brazil Glass material" with IOR 1.0
