Could Paramount Pictures (VIA (http://investing.businessweek.com/research/stocks/snapshot/snapshot.asp?symbol=VIA)) lose Steven Spielberg and the DreamWorks (DWA (http://investing.businessweek.com/research/stocks/snapshot/snapshot.asp?symbol=DWA)) studio it bought just 20 months ago for $1.53 billion? It's entirely possible. People close to Spielberg say he is vexed that Paramount has treated his team shabbily and grabbed credit for DreamWorks productions. If Spielberg were to leave, says a person familiar with the situation, he could take several of his hitmakers and the DreamWorks name with him....

I think if he goes it will be good for the industry, as more firms mean more competition and more work, for us hard pressed artists.

Wasn't ILM doing the main effects on those? And otherwise Steven got allready some nice projects to do.

It's hard to imagine that the dreamworks purchase didn't have exclusivity and non-compete provisions written in or that they would have expired after only 20 months.

But the purchase price is interesting. It means the Dreamworks live action studio was valued at about 1/4 of the worth of Pixar when it was sold and 1/2 of what Dreamworks Animation is valued at. That is in spite of having output may more movies.
