Title: Torment
Name: William Borde
Country: United States
Software: Photoshop
Illustration for Pepcid AC, was rejected???!!! (just kidding)
In all seriousness this is an illustration I did for the Rock band DISTURBED, they chose it over"Gate keeper" (also shown on my portfolio page) for their world tour merchandise. I did change a few things on this painting to make it more interesting. Let me hear what you think. Thanks

thank you !
I'm a big 2D&3D's fan , but I don't have to much time for that and my computer is to old !
In December or next year ,I hope to can buy a new computer and a Wacom tablet !
With the mouse is very hard ( for me ) to make something good !
For now , drawing with pencil on paper is my way to transpose my imagination in something perceptible !
Sorry for my very bad english !
Bye !

Hey William,
Checked ur Picture, and it seems really nice... I just had some stuff in my mind to ask you about.. I know this was for "maybe" a cd cover or something... So thats ok, but...
The fire on background and "black" color makes it really "disturbed" for the eye to look at it... it makes me dizzy somehow ... Instead of the black and burning background, a theme would be much better ... like... at a dark street, with only 1 Street light, and a cold one too ... but he burns! :)
Also, when he opens his shirt with his hands, it'd be so much more effective if u were to make it look like he "rips" them off ... not opens it... tryn to cool himself down.. ? maybe? :) just few ideas , or atleast stuff that flashed back at my brain when i looked at it...
The idea and coloring on the Man it self is really awesome, great work ... For me & other viewers maybe u can add the things i told u bout? :) thx alot ...

Great insight, thank you. This image (not as it shows here) was originally created to be printed on shirts and as some of you may know or may be familiar with screen printing there are significant limitations and the artist must keep them in mind while designing. Let me address your suggestions in order. Your dizziness as you look at the painting tells me that I have somewhat achieved a feel which I was aiming for, the situation that this "person" find himself is, how could we describe it, uncomfortable at best and I hope to relate that to the viewer. This being said I do have to agree with you and your idea of adding some cool tones to what I feel is not a well balanced (in terms of colors) illustration. Your last point is also very insightful. Initially the client requested a specific image and there are times, as some of you may know, when it is pointless to try to convince someone who already made up their mind on what they want to see. At any rate, you should have seen the version that was approved, instead of the skull it was the disturbed "smiley face" which is somewhat their icon and aside from a little fire in the background the character was all rendered in gey tones, see if you can't really print all these red orange and yellow colors on a black shirt because it would look muddy and downright awful. Anyways it made the whole thing sort of uneventful and not really exiting. So it left me wanting more out of that image and that led me to revisit it quickly and whip out the what you see here. As to rework the illustration itself and add some of the nice elements you suggested, time and energy might not be enough for me. I do want to thank you for taking the time it means a great deal to me and please visit my portfolio page and drop me a line to give me your opinion on the rest of the work. Thanks BertanAkin.
