View Full Version : Creature: Shark with Arms (?)
E.Z. Schwartz 03-25-2003, 07:39 PM I started working on this guy today in XSI 3. I'm at a point where I could use some sugestions on where to go with him next. He doesn't look scary enough to me yet, anyone have any ideas how to make it better? Any sugestions would be apreciated. Thanks!

Time to go home. I bulked him up a good bit and I think he looks a little scarier, what do you think?

Make it look more like an shark might help. Sharks look mean, so more "sharkness" might/probably help.

Hey this is pretty cool; yeah make his face more gruesome like one of those great white sharks. As for the body add some ribcage detail. If you go crazy with the anatomy designs He could be really excellent. Dont follow the exact shark anatomy but invent an inbetween version (man/shark). This is just a suggestion of course.

yeah definitely make the jaw/head area longer. a big long jaw with a bunch of teeth always does the trick

Here's a pretty big update I think. Comparing it to the last version I think he's looking a lot better. What do you guys think I should focus on now? It's getting hard for me to tell.

looks really good
why don't u post a lit version?
The arms are way to comical(lanky). A shark with arms just isn't a scary creature.
But other than that The update is a great improvement.

Now you've updated it, it looks much better. Only crit I have now is that, IMHO, you should scale it down verticaly; it looks to fat now. And the arms could be better too. Try to get inspired by dragon claws/arms for it's arms.

I'll try to unsuck the arms a bit. I thought skinny arms would be more freaky, but I guess it didn't work out that way. Other than that where would you like to see more detail? Give me some harsh critiques, I can take it.

E.Z. Schwartz, It is progressing nicely, I think the thin arms could work, why not consider exoskeleton-like arms like a crab, not claws but just the segmentation, that could look cool. Also smaller beady eyes may work well along with a shorter nose. Just some ideas you can think about. It looks great so far especially from the bottom view. He looks like an escaped genetic experiment, cool.

Hey cool concept and model! But I think the model would be more impressive without the arms, because the proportions of a real white shark are damn good made and I think it could really become something like a very cool photorealistic looking shark, the cartoonish look (in my eyes) do make the whole model look somehow childish or so ;)

Hope this attachment works, I tried shrinking it as small as possible. The original pic is from a great artist named: Dorian Cleavenger.

Time to go home again. I made a few changes, shortened and thickened the arms, and attached them to the body better (I think). Flattened his snout and lengthened his body, and moved his side fins back. I'm not sure if exoskeletony arms will look good on a shark. I might try it tomorrow though. Thanks for the sugestions everyone! It's inspiring me and pushing me to keep working on it. I think tomorrow I'll try to give his body some more definition and musculature.

Hellwolve, I think you're right. After looking at your sqished version the regular way seems too stretched out. I'll do that tomorrow, thanks for the advice.
Neolee, I don't know if it's been done before, I'm sure it has, it doesn't seem like such an origonal idea. I was just doodeling and drew something like a shark with arms and thought it'd be cool to make. Once the model is done enough I'll texture and rig it. I was thinking of making a picture of him eating a fish that he's holding in one of his hands.
-Edit- or maybe I'll make a picture of the final guy eating the first version. :)

E.Z. Schwartz, I hope I'm not being too pushy about the segmented armor idea, but I genuinely like how your model is developing, I have 3 attachments for you let me know what you think.
Quick sketch I made of a modifiable arm/fin.

Hey that's a good idea, a fin/arm. Thanks for the sugestion, I'll try it out. Man I really have to learn how to draw. I think I'll take a class some time soon, I'm starting to feel more and more that my crummy drawing skills are holding back my CG skills. Maybe I'll post my concept sketch tomorrow for a laugh. :D Thanks again!
