View Full Version : Problem with netrender and an enhanced noise bump

I´ve got a problem with netrender and an enhance4d shader in the bump channel of a glas material.
If I render this quiet computional intensive scene (actually 4 different scenes) I get the following effect:

From time to time the bump (enhance 4d shader) seems to change position or flicker.
If I restart the scene this might happen on other fames again or it might work without errors (which is seldom, but anyway I have to rerender in filmresolution, so I should find a solution).

Now I try to track down if this problem is dependent on certain machines in the network,
but what I´d need for this would be a list that shows which mAchine rendered which frame.
Does netrender generate such a list while rendering and if, where is it hidden?

Any workarounds other than baking the shader as bump. (Which I did, but now it takes even longer to render cause I have to set the alias settings higher for that object due to more flickering caused by the bitmap bumpmap)?

Thanks
Holger

if you take a screen shot of the NET clients you will at least have a guess of what frame ranges were rendered on what clients (but it does change as frames lessen so it may not be 100% accurate)

but then you can use that a guide to log into the NET client machine itself and verify that the frame was rendered by looking at the list of frames listed in the NET client window

my first guess would be to ask if you are rendering on different cpu types and that may be the cause (i.e. intel or AMD or mac PPC mix) you could just render a few frames (maybe try just as many frames as you have NET clients so each one gets just one or two frames to ease the amount of frames to sort through)

Thanks,
I think it could be the intel amd thing.
One machine of 20 is amd, this would be an explanation for the problem appearing only on a few frames.
I´ll have a try.

The screenshot approach is a good workaround,
gosh such things were easier to spot with my lightwave netrendering solution.

Thanks
