hi all,

just wondering if there is any way to change the default papers that load when you open painter 9.5, i know you can maunally open a library but once i close painter it reverts to the factory default papers when i open it again.

thanks

Yes, you can do that, it isn't so user friendly but it works. In fact painter uses everytime as default the first paper of the PAP file loaded. So you just need to change the order.
-open the Paper Mover
-in the right windows choose New to create your own library
-type the name you want my_papers.pap
-drag and drop the paper you need, from left part of the window to the right part considering that the first one you will move will be the first one in the list (the order of papers will be inversed when you will go out of the paper mover window)-When done close the window
-Load the new library named my_papers.pap replacing the default Painter.pap
Now everytime you will open painter the new library will be loaded using the first paper.

If anyone know an easy way to do that, please don't be shy.

In Painter IX.5, whichever Papers library I had loaded when I last used Painter, that Papers library is still loaded when I launch Painter the next time. It's not necessarily the Painter IX default Papers library, since I use my own custom Papers libraries most of the time.

I don't know why your Papers library isn't staying loaded after closing and relaunching Painter IX.5. It should.

Of course, if you reset Painter IX.5 to its installed state by holding down the Shift key, all of the default libraries will again be loaded.

If your Painter Settings file (Mac) or Painter.SET file (Windows) becomes corrupted, it will need to be replaced which Painter will do automatically if you hold down the Shift key while launching Painter IX.5.

Once you have everything set up in Painter IX.5 the way you want, it would be a good idea to back up your Painter Settings/Painter.SET file in a folder somewhere outside of your Painter IX application/program folder and outside of your Painter IX User folder.

Then, if you ever need to restore Painter IX.5 to its installed state, you'll be able to replace the new Painter Settings/Painter.SET file with the one you backed up and you won't really lose all of your custom settings.

If you have other custom items, such as custom brushes, be sure to back those up too, before restoring the program to its default state.

my problm seems to stem from a custom pallett i have containing my papers, when i click in the papers in the custom pallett the paper llibrary instanly reverts to the default painter.pap without warning. guess ill just use the paper library instead.

Does the Painter.SET store all the painter settings? I was looking for this kind of file since lot of time lol
and do you know where are stored perspective grids informations? I've lost too many time these datas... Thanks for your help

I mean, if you put a brush like the "captured bristle" from the default painter brush library, you can open your own brush library, when you'll click on the captured bristle from your custom palette, painter will automatically load the default brush library.

If the icon in your Custom Palette was placed there when the default Painter IX Papers library was loaded, then you load another Papers library, then click that icon again, it's going to load the appropriate Papers library so whatever Paper was selected will again be available.

It's supposed to do that.

If you want another Papers library available to load, drag one of the Paper icons onto your Custom Palette, so you can click it to load that library.

It works the same as brush category icons. You can have brush category icons from mulitiple brush libraries in your Custom Palette and when you click one of them, if the brush variant isn't in the currently loaded brush library, the appropriate brush library will be automatically loaded.

thanks jinny,

all the papers in my custom pallette were in my paper library- in fact it contained all the default papers and more. i have resolved the problem by rebuilding exactly the same custom pallette again from scratch.

The following definitions (for Painter IX/IX 9.1 and IX.5) were written by me and approved by the Corel Painter Development team:

The CustomPalettes.pal file (Windows) or CustomPalettesX.pal file (Mac) stores Custom Palettes.

The Painter.SET file (Windows) or Painter.Settings file (Mac) also stores Custom Palettes, remembers your last used brush category, stores saved palette layouts, undo levels, brush tracking preferences and other temporary and flexible user settings and preferences.

I'd guess any Perspective Grid user settings are also stored in the Painter Settings/Painter.SET file. I've never checked since I don't like the Perspective Grid and never use it except when trying to explain it to another user.

To know for sure, ask someone from Corel.

Ok, thanks Jinny, I won't waste anymore my time configuring painter :)

About perspective grids, after a quick test it seems all these datas are stored inside the file named PAINTER.PRE (Windows)
