hi all ...

playing around with particles i achieved something like this:

http://www.maximotions.de/content/ring.avi
a small divX 5 animation.

it's not nice ... it's just about the texture ... its a procedural smoke material ... as you can see the ring travels trough the texture making it look not like i want.

i used pcloud particles folowing a torus ... particle life is very short (4 frames or what) ... and i guess that is the problem.

how could i make that texture folow the ring? i tried using the explicted map channel ... but particles either don't have one or it doesn't work like i want ... also theres no way to apply uvw map on particles, right?

well ... i hope this didn't sound to stupid ... and someone out there might even understan what i mean =)

thanks for any replies ... would be nice maybe to discuss a different way of creating this smoke ring thing(?) ... i might went the wrong way from the beginning.

Well, this might be a roundabout solution, but you could move the texture along with it. You keyframe the offset in the material editor so that the movement of the map is more or less lined up with the movement of the particles. I hope that was clear...plus there is probably a better solution out there.

Just a quick test. I've included the MAX file so you can see what i've done. You might want to play around with some of the particle settings to get rid of the slight popping of the particles that spawn and despawn.

If you have any questions to the setup i'll be happy to answer any questions.
