View Full Version : Male Head nearly finished need c&c
scorpion 03-25-2003, 03:09 PM A while ago I started with this head but never had time to do anything to finish it. This is the result until now.
The head is modelled in 3DSMax, the hair with shag:hair and all is rendered with scanline renderer.
I've got great problems on doing the skinshader maybe you can help me with this.
head colored with hair

head gray shaded without hair

So c&c are welcome.

diffuse your spec a bit more as well as lower its value, maybe make the spec a map and then lower its brightness? and decrease the decay.
also your hair looks a little too flat and regular, may i suggest messing it up a "bit" ? (now why couldn't I get the hair to go like that for me in my paintbrush model :S grr XSI)

Lets see what I can do with the hair. I'm not sure how it's gonna end cause this is the first time I'm really using shag:hair.
The Specularity is possible I think.
I hope there will come more c&c.

Looks good.
I agree with the suggestions by BiTMAP. Also while the ear looks good it seems a bit soft in structure compared to the style of the head. Maybe also try adding more density to the eyebrows.
wow this is really good
the skin seems too bright though... or something

Nicely put.
You can tweak the eyebrows so they are combed. And the edges of the brows has to be less dense.
For his shave: you can put some irregularity to the edges of the shaved facial hair, so there shouldn't be a definitive edge, especially part below the lips. The roots of the hair forms a straight line which is an undesired thing.
The eyes are as if they are on a plane. You should add more depth to the lateral edge of the eyes, the lateral commissure of the eyes are always behind the medial one, and with this you have to change other parts but be sure your model will look better.

I agree with the others - the eyebrows need a little combing. One thing I also noticed was that the rim of the nostril seems extremely sharp - you need to try to soften that up a little. A bit of bump on the lips will go a long way too.

I think the problem with the shape of the eyes lies in the fact that the eyeballs themselves are too big. The eyes will have a nicer curve if the eyeballs have a diameter just slightly bigger than the eye opening itself.

Looks a little like Colin Farrel to me. Who are you using as a reference?

Thx for all the suggestions. I think some of them will get changed.
To the eyeballs they are only a bit larger than the eye opening.
And there is actually no reference pic.

Only a few changes done.

Looking good. I think his jaw might be a bit far forward like he has an underbite. Also his eyebrows may be a bit thin.
could you show him from a few other angles?
