Here's one I'm currently working on. Just going to add some details on the building and the sidewalk area. Oh and a train. :) There is some photo manip as well as hand painted elements- most of the sky, sidewalk, some trees, lights, and details here and there.

C n C!!!

Hi there,

I think this is really starting to come along well and the main building is already looking like it belongs. Try increasing the lighting slightly on the actual train though, as I think it would be brighter showing more detail.

I hope that helps,

Jay

This is looking good :)

Please move the sun lower! That's not a proper angle for sunset - at that angle it would be 4-5 afternoon :D

I would also try as photoshopped said, to make the train a little bit more lighter; also the dark areas of the building. In return I would darken the close ground.

Looks good, I like the lighting, but like the Suirebit said, the sun is very high, it should be closer to the trees.

Also one thing, those black "spots" near the left trees, are those shadows?

Thanx for the replies everyone!
About the sun, I orginally thought it was that high off the horizon in my ref photos, but I was wrong you are right.
Photoshopped, Suirebit, it's interesting that you mentioned brightening up the train. I actually did have it brighter but toned it down because I thought it distracted from the focal point. (below the sun at the tracks where I'm placing a train)

Rockhopper, thanx!

Scionic, the dark spots are shadows. The rocks there raise up a bit and create small mounds.

I should have it completed by tonight ( I already would have but I got caught up watching The Office :))

Ahh okay, I thought those shadows were made by the trees, which would be in the wrong direction according to the sun position.

Some minor details, though, I think the grass(or whatever) is very bright, in front of the train they seem almost to glow, I think it would look better if you toned down.

One more thing, the light in the light-posts is casting a light with no shadow.

great image, I think it is coming along really cool, I would add something for the foreground maybe some railroad siganl or something . about the train you add I think it look wrong in its prespective, see the last wagon?? it look pretty further away in scale than the background tree that should be a giant tree compared to that last wagon, nice integration and lighting keep it up !

Cool image! The new train looks a little small compared to the cart on the tracks behind it. other than that and some of the other stuff said, I like it. Great colors.

Wow I totally muffed that train. But I corrected it. Thank you jaime and Rquack for your observations and comments. I think I'll call this one done and move on to the next. Hows it looking?

Wooh ooh (train noise!)

Sorry couldnt resist it, The front wheel/bogie looks slight askew (only slightly)
Is the train stationary or is it moving, Some steam coming from various parts of the engine and if it is moving some steam from the steam stack could sell movement of the vehicle. Yes I know it is a matte do what you feel is right.

By the way I absolutely love it

nice job timmay :)

my only pick is with how you moved the sun lower - seems you cloned it down, am I right? If so, I think it would've been better to move down the whole layer and clone just the upper part of the sky;

Also - (and this is something noone noticed it seems :D ) considering the new position of the sky and the trees between it and the building there's no way the building can be so equally lit! you need some serious casted shadows on the far regions, near the trees

Ya I just moved the sun down lower. I wanted to keep the other parts of the sky visible. If I didn't, it would just be blues in the sky and kind of boring.

Good point about the shadow on the far part of the building.
The train is moving and I meant to add smoke elements, just haven't yet.

Thank you all for your critiques and comments! On to the next one.

I uploaded the final image (with smoke). It's also a bit larger.

Looks good. I would even go more with the cast shadows. Especially in front of the train, left and right hand trees and more in the building where the main entrance covers that tower. Suirebit's right, there will be long shadows since the sun's so low.

nice work.. the smoke looks kinda too transparent... make it a little thick.. nd extend the shadows of the light pole a little more.. as the sun is setting the shadows wil be longer...
make the light falling on the ground frm the lights a more brighter.. everything else looks fine... cheers

Looking really good Timmay! I would try and adjust the lighting on the building a bit to reflect the colour of the sun, and dirty up some of the larger walls with some textures to sell that its been in this dirty environment for a long time.

Looking really great though!
