Hi everyone!

It took me nearly 9 months of work, but finally I managed to bring my latest animated short movie to an end. :bounce:

So here it is:
Download (15 MB, Xvid) (http://rapidshare.com/files/43501006/Die_Hand.640x480.xvid.mp3.avi.html) or stream (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2Y46bFFgZ0), English subtitled stream (http://video.google.de/videoplay?docid=6169785099126040733). Done with Maya, After Effects and beer.

It's a visualisation of an "old and nasty" song by the Austro-American cabaret artist Georg Kreisler. I admire his works since I was 10 years old. So let's think of this as a humble homage. The character animation could have been better - well, it could not for I'm not a full-time animator and I've still much to learn.

However, thanks for watching. Comments & critics are highly appreciated! :)

I really liked the backgrounds and lighting. I have no clue what that guy is singing, but from his dead girlfriend and the whole cutting off of the hand thing it must not have been a ballad. Nice humor with her falling face first into the table and his very calm and creepy demeanor. You said it yourself the animation could use some real improving, for instance when he takes a step you need to add foot rolls, right now he is very flat footed. I felt a little bored watching it, especially not knowing what the guy was saying, I tried to watch the subtitle one but I couldn't get it to work. You could really play up the song and the craziness of this guy by having him move around a little more and interacting with his environment or do some dance moves here and there. This was definetly alot of work, how long did you spend on animating and modelling, etc. Looks good

That was awesome!

Character animation was missing some weight every now end then (especially when the guy was walking) and maybe the whole thing could have used more contrast in colour grading.

But the idea and the song and the whole style of the animation is just great!

By the way - there is a version with english subtitles available in the first post :)
