Wow - as a vehicle enthusiast myself nowadays - I'm just trying to suck in as much as information on modeling cars etc. as possible. This differs from the other cars seen here in my opinion pretty much. I assume you don't have any blueprints exept the ones in your head. Am I right? I like the soft shapes but yet they are still well defined - in my experience when boxmodeling w/ hypernurbs the model easily lacks definition in places - and when polymodeling you get pretty sharp shapes - not organic-like like yours. What method did you use? IŽd especially like to know how you made the seam/edge that runs backwards and down from the windshields bottom? Are you using R8 with its new edge tools? Great start - just don't give up on the interest as I do pretty often with my cars...

ummm how to start...

ok first off i do have blueprints...i started off on a piece of paper...which i scanned...imported to illustrator...then traced...i then imported the traced lines into c4d to get this...

http://www.cgi.third-era.com/~chi/carblueprints.jpg

from here i started experimenting with loft nurbs to layout the genral panels...i soon abondoned this aproach...so the only pieces made this way are the canopy...everything else is modeled poly by poly...i would create points to follow the main panels...clone them...create the polys then use the edge extrude plugin to keep a consistent shape...
for the seams where the panels meet ill post a picture...but genraly i modeled in the extra geometery to get the hard crease..as i didnt have vr.8...so there is no edge weighting...

anyways after i had created a completed edge i would select the edges that i wanted to make up a new panel split them and continue with the same kind of edge extrude method.

yeah i just started working on this again now that i have r8...there is nothing wrong with stopping a model as long as you come back to them...anyways...next post i make will be an update to the model...and thanx for the comments...if any one has something they would like to see on the car or anyother comments ill take just about anything into consideration...

later

sweet man I have got to get around to using the good old split thingy. some of the best cars seem to be made by splitting the ploys to get seamless seamed edges.

Maybe you could make the mirrors part of the door so it's in the same organic style as the rest of the car, it's a bit hard to explain what I mean but I could probably show you.

Like this but perhaps you could make it a bit more sleek and organic looking. :)

exhaust pipes? tail lights? lights in general?
LOL, this car is pretty cool, but seems to be lacking som important parts that are requied in a car's daily activities.
Cheers,
