i'm trying to figure something out that i can't find info on otherwise:
i used the checkerboard pattern to even out the vertices and how the surface texture would appear. the precise technical detail i wasn't sure about is about when you modify a nurbs pieces to a poly, and even if you've attached a number of pieces together to make it all hang together as symetrically sizewise as possible > how the texture pattern appears on the surface/matches up [see attachment BA body comp] i had matched up the checkerboard pattern here between the halves fairly easily.
i'm getting some smaller pieces for the head model that were harder to attach in nurbs initially [i.e. just before modification] , and therefore show a different, smaller sized pattern compared to the larger attached pieces upon modification [see the "matching" attachment]. the question is should i just worry about the initial vertices themselves and ignore the size of the smaller pattern here OR should i pull the pattern itself larger to match up the initially larger squares.
the initial wireframe nurbs head model can be seen at my site c000be (http://c000be.cgsociety.org/gallery/474241/) [the 2nd button link in the first row]. the next/3rd button (http://c000be.cgsociety.org/gallery/503578/), shows how i was initially trying to hook up the checkerboard pattern for the hand without the same amount/type of problems i seem to be having with the head model.
i know it sounds a bit odd, but maya has so maya little things about it, that this one was really just bothering me since i'm not a materials person.
thanks, this is the only thing that's been keeping me from finalizing this because the conversion stuff was a bit tricky to learn in the first place, and i absolutely couldn't find any info anywhere on this aspect of how it might affect the texture placement.
the head model is the most difficult because of the uneveness of some pieces [original nurbs with wireframe on my site, 1st row of buttons, 2nd button in]. that is, to hook up all of the patches, corners, etc.
this will all become one piece. Does the checkerboard pattern i'm using to model the poly model need to match up between pieces or not? just the vertices/UVs via right click that show up?
thank you for your help.
