View Full Version : My First Face, WIP
teamcarlisle 07-16-2007, 05:54 AM I've been toying around with blender for about a year, I finally started my first face when I got Blenders Intro to Animation book. I started with the tutorial on the asian girls head, then adapted the mesh after to look more masculine. It's still a WIP but this is what I've got so far :)

Thanks for the comment, I added some noise to the normal map for the skin and threw in SSS. Looks a bit better. I need to learn about specular maps though, I've never used them. I'm having a hard time with the eyes though, I'm going through the tutorial at http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=85722&highlight=eye+tutorial but I as you can see in the pics, when I enable raytrace, the eye goes completely black. I think the tutorial is set up for the blender internal renderer, so I might use a simpler tutorial on the eyes.

What version of Blender are you using?

currently I'm using version 2.44. I'm just a hobbyist so I don't mind jumping straight into new versions, I have yet to start a major project that might last long enough to not work with a newer version (if that makes sense the way I said it)

Hi, I like the style you are going for. The skin looks a little waxy with the sss, but that's ok.
Try changing the spec to black, (it turns it off).
For the eyes, there are a few good tutorials on BA forums, some with sample files.
Try downloading a sample file and look at the render settings.
There are also a few good skin tutorials that may help also.
I like the scars, adds character.
Keep up the good work.
