Hello. If somebody works for movies, could you please tell me:
what is the average texture resolution and final image resolution;
and how much time you are given to make realistic surfaces, whether you feel lack of time;
and how often you are satisfied with results of your work or you feel you need extra time, but the deadlines are too tight.
It just seems to me that to create a really hq work, and I quess movies can be considered as such, you need some extra time. Let's say you can make a scene in a week, but to make it really nice you need 2.
One more question: is it true that for movies EVERY surface is provided with bump and reflection\specular at minimum? Color\bitmap is clearly needed, so this is clear, but sometimes it seems you can go without bump, maybe I'm wrong.

What do you mean by "hq"?

The resolution of the texture depends entirely on how close up the texture will be seen in the final render. They can vary from 2k to 8k, to larger. There isn't really an "average" size.

The amount of time you work on a texture also varies. Again, there are no averages because every project is different.

And yes, at the very least we always create colour, bump and spec maps for every surface.

Thank you for reply, Leigh. By hq I mean high quality. Is a movie resolution limited today to 1920x1280 or there is even a larger resolution?
So there are no averages, but are the deadlines tight? I remember you were saying that working for commercials was hard because you were always limited in time, so now you have more time?
