Hi there... I haven t been posting for a long time... I m still working on my mOOn character (in fact, the character is done, I m working on the set, modeling will be finished soon) But I had to make a break, so I started that shit...

The concept is from a french comic book: HK, here s my only reference:

I know some areas don t look like the concept, but it s really small so I have to imagine some stuff...

still a lot to do..

Well it's looking good so far!:) Be sure to post a pic when finished, cos it looks like it's going to be a pretty detailed mesh! The mech looks like it's wearing a hat!;)

Not a big fan of mech stuff generally, but this is cool :D
I like that design a lot - it's funny how it almost looks like it is wearing a hat. I wonder if the artist did that intentionally?

I think that the top of your models head is just a little too squared, while in the original design it is quite a bit rounder.

Other than that, it's coming along nicely :)

Wooot !! Looking great !
And excelent choice of character !
A kickass concept , but man is it hard to translate to 3d !
Excelent job so far !
My only crit would be the top of the head : it seems too flat on the top, and not quite tilted forward enough.

On a side note: i'm doing some stuff from hk too :)
btw : where did you get these 3/4 view from ?
I have all the comics and have not yet seen these before (i mean the concepts not the characters)

Keep us posted !
Cheers !

Leigh >> I m not a big fan of mech nither, nut I have to do that one for professional reasons.. And I thought it was a good excercise to try myself at non-organique modeling... I m learning and I like it :)

I ll correct the top of the head... check that in the next update..

ckaos@om >> yes, it's not easy and It s taking me some time.. It s a good chalenge!

In fact I don't really know much about HK, I got that concept from the author himself (I'm doing it for him), it s on his site: www.transtkat.com

Oh Geez, Oh Geez... very excellent start :buttrock:

One of the reasons I started learning 3ds max (oh, 3 or 4 weeks ago :D ) was so that I could model awesome mechs, of which I have been a fan since I started watching anime...

Anyway, what I want to know is, how do you get your shapes so that the edges look hard enough to be pieces of metal, but they are still soft enough so it doesn't look like you just slapped a couple of cubes in place. Do you just use mesh smoothing (or NURMS smoothing) with lots of vertex weight adjustments? Thanks, and once again, that is a very impressive model

Oh...I guess you did this in Maya...well I'm using 3ds max so I guess you may not be able to help me...oh well :D

Looking cool. I haven't been a huge fan of mechs. but this is pretty cool. I'm waiting for those arms. ;)

Tooncinatore; Try using the Smoothing Groups, and adding lines.

Thanks :D, I'll try that, but what do you mean exactly by "adding lines?" (I'm a little n00b here, although I do manage to figure things out rather quickly).

Is this a technical term?

Dang! That looks really cool. Love the mecha concept and you seem to be doing a great job at modelling it for that being your only reference. Keep it up and lets see more updates please.

this is a really good start mister tosse :scream:

the tricky part about mecha modeling is animating the whole stuff. Making it work perfectly :), because most of the the time in 2D design and animation they are cheating a lot concerning the realism of the real motion of the mech.

( huh am i clear ??? or is my english just gibberish ? )

I'm with Leigh...not a big fan of mechs but obviously this one triggered me into responding so you must have done something different...nice work so far...i'll check back for updates...
