if you want to change the hotkeys you can go to windows->preferences->hotkeys.
and just delete the history if that is what you want to do.
the guys up there have already said how.
dont know about nothing on XSI, but I heard that Maya have the best visualization mode and have the best hotkeys on default, try to understand some new things!!!

yeah, when i first switched over from max to maya stuff was exploding all over coz i was pressing the wrong keys :P
it took me a while to realize how powerful they made the MMB :surprised
but now that I'm used to Maya I don't think I can go back! I love the way Maya is set up :D

ha, maybe that is why everyone likes maya so much. everything is set up really nice. but I can sure see a problem when users of other software would get confused. a lot of things have weird names, like the dope sheet, the hypershade, the hypergraph and much much more(or do all of the high end programs do that).
I think that moving around your scene is the easiest of all of the other 3d pakages. I have used both 3ds max and lightwave and both require you to go all of the way to a small little button on the side or top or top side of the screen to use the camera transform tools. in bigger projects I can see how that can really slow you down.
too bad you cant change it from alt to something else in maya.
I have standard 3 button mouse with the wheel and an aditional 4th button for the thumb and the mouse software wont let me use alt for it. that would have been sweet if it did
and even the hotbox. how cool is that. and MEL you could possibly rewrite the entire program using its very own language(well partly).
and is it just me or has a lot of people been going over to maya since march 1st.
the only thing that I dont like about maya is that I cant use that brazil render that everyone has been talking about.
and arn't those weird names for windows strange. it can get confusing to even people who have been using maya for a while.
i dont mean to put down the other software. i just think that maya is the best. i havent used max much and am not used to lightwave yet. I have seen equally as good material that comes from max lightwave and xsi than stuff that comes out of maya.
Happy clicking:applause:

by freeze, it sounds like you can get it back at some point. is that something you can do with XSI?
as far as i know, once you delete history in maya it's gone forever.

Maya Ayanami, about Maya having weird names, I couldn't agree more.
I have been using Maya for more than two years now and I still discover really basic things which I haven't used before simply because of the fact that I get no hints from the name as to what the command will do.
This might be of help if you switch from softimage to maya:

And this if you switch from max to maya:

Haha, that's what I was wondering too. Never heard of a someone going from XSI to Maya--only the other way around.

Ive done it.
I liked maya better.
I liked the marking menu's and hotkeys.
And of course the shelves. Couldn't live without the shelves.
Cleaner interface IMO too.
Some things I miss about xsi.
Poly Modeling. God that is intuitive in XSI.
Moving XYZ with the mouse buttons.
Ghosting curve in graph editor.
Usable dopesheet.
Quaternion based. Like the orient constraints.
Id work in either package. Id purchase Maya for myself.
