View Full Version : Render compositing layers
Deepray 04-06-2002, 04:27 AM Well, this is the problem. When i render a scene, the beauty layer looks great. but when i render in separate layers, the color and the shadow, the shadow layer makes something strange. some objects apear a opaque mask from the shadow layer, and apear black. I look into the render atributes from the objects, for a oposite normals o something like that, without success. Can anyone help me?

From your description, it sounded like the shadow layer is as it should be.
I'm probably not understanding your description, could you post a couple images to show us what your talking about?
Alos, when you composite the shadow & color layers what do they look like?

Check this http://www.terra.es/personal5/deepray/imagenes.zip look at the chimmey and the chest. The light come from the rigth of the image, in front of them. And the shadow hasn't got any detail.:annoyed: ,pleaseee..... help me...
Hi
I tryed the examples you posted... and placed them together in after fx... the Shadow layer does have those objects (which is weird) but hard to know what is causing it not knowing what else is in the scene..one thing though... i believe that the beauty layer does shadows allready... and on the beauty image by itself there seems to be some shadows allready... ( so maybe u don't even need the shadow pass)
anyway... here is an image using overlay (i think) to pinpoint the problem... (the probelm is shown in gray.) what i mean is that that object seems to be caused by something else on the scene or maybe if u have double side off for that object that might be the problem ... not too sure though... but the antenae and the rail on the top seem to work fine... (as far as thir shadows is concerend) so look and see for double side if its on or off... or maybe some are not receiving shadows or casting shadows... or something else on the scene...
BUT BESIDS THAT NO OTHER IDEAS COME TO MIND... PERHAPS CAUSE I HAVENT SLEPS... SORRY... I'LL SEE IF IO CAN FIGURE IT OUT THOUGH...(sorry for the caps)....anyway... here is what i found as problem area... with out having the black over the image.. to see the problem better...
(
ps.. perhps w this image some else can pinpoint more acurately the problem.... hope that helps in some way...
sorry again...(too tyred)
ps2. sorry for the nasty letters i drew it on the fcheck window...

thanks a lot guys, but, after hours of hard work, i found the problem... but not the solution. It's something about the layered shader of these objects... and a error show by maya like this when i select these shaders:
// Error: Could not find attribute named ".texture[0]" //
When i put another shader (not layered) in these objects, the shadow render layer appears right.
any idea?
