Jack Zhang's 3D portrait of Liu Yifei was a project taken on out of pure curiosity. Jack clearly wanted to make this work. It did. It won a CGChoice Award, helped him be selected as a Featured CGPortfolio and finally won him a place in EXPOSE 5.

Right on- good job Jack. Thanks for sharing your techniques- and congratulations on the deserved attention your work is getting. I liked seeing your cloth technique- I always thought that part was pretty amazing.

I really admire the fact that you are not relying on any new technology to create this awsome piece.
no bump map.. no normal mapping.. only plain skills in modeling, texturing and painting... combine with dedication... I salute to you :applause:

So, if I understood the text correctly, you didn't actually render any bumps, normal maps or displacements, but just "baked" them into the textures with some clever use of Photoshop?
