it's really a shame, that they don't get the publicity, these guys deserve.
i really love the new app.
nevertheless, nice site. hope they'll add some more picts. i bet there's a few more cool silo2 picts out there.

A while back I tried almost all of the more specialized standalone modelers (including modo at that time) and IMO for modeling purposes Silo was miles ahead of the competition... if not by features, by its core concept.
I don't think I need much to add to XSI's modeling toolset, but unlike with modo for example I saw a real benefit in adding Silo to my toolset. It really is an example of keeping the interface/workflow dead simple and intuitive while having a very broad feature set... unlike modo which in only 2-3 major versions has managed to make its menubutton infested interface more complicated/unintuitive than 10+ year old applications.
What it takes Modo to do in countless menus/submenus of lists of buttons (I've seen CAD apps with less 'fractured' functions), it takes Silo merely a couple of buttons/shortcuts in comparison. Almost all of its tools work on all modes vertex/poly/edge for example, and there are other tools which complete a lot of functions that are similar in nature without wasting much needed space (and having less shortcuts to remember).
This makes Silo very easy to pick up, I was literally running full speed with this app with only a couple of hours of use. In comparison I needed weeks of using Modo to even be comfortable with the most basic things, and it would still give me brainfreeze thinking how a modeling software released in 2004 could take such a direction with its interface/workflow.
It would be interesting to know where Silo would be if it invested as much in marketing as Luxology does. Silo is definitely one of the most underrated and unrecognized software out there.

I am yet another silo user that thinks its one of the best modellers out there... I really hope they gain more publicity...
rasmusW: They get the best kind of publicity through word of mouth. =] They have professionals and hobbyists alike using the software everyday at home and in studios all over. I've always liked the fact that they are just a couple of guys doing this for the love of it. That shows in the final product, and keeps me using it. If they needed more success, they could easily triple the price, and spend some of that money on marketing. They don't really need to though.

wow, just tried and I think it's much better than the previous beta that I was testing a while ago.
Mudbox has a serious competitor here, the sculpting is working really well and the rest modelling tools are very good.
If they can get some publicity I'm sure we'll see a lot of good things coming from this app.
Still miss some scripting, I think that some serious scripting could help to make it bigger thanks to the community.

I do not own Silo but I tried out an earlier demo of Silo and I was very impressed with it. It was really easy to use. I haven't tried Modo yet so I have no comment on that app.

I also tried Silo a while back and really liked it for it's power and simplicity. I think Silo will do very well in the future.
Luxology has intentions of making Modo a fully featured application so that's likely the reason for it's more complex interface. I don't know if Nevercenter ever intends Silo to be a fully featured app though.

I have to say I am pretty impressed with all they have added. I had been leaning more towards Modo as my dedicated modeler for Maya, but I am going to have to hold off and try Silo 2 out first. I already prefer the Silo UI and workflow and know it has much better retopo tools, I'm looking forward to comparing sculpting and UV tools when both demos come out.

The SDK was delayed i think they mentioned it will be there in 1.1 or 1.2.. Offcourse we all wanted it to be there now but the app is allready under development for quite some time :D and i absolutly love it :D and affordable too.

I agree with what everyone is saying :)
Silo is an amazingly good modelling app, and for the price/features/workflow cannot be beaten.
I have Modo as well and compared to Silo its a crazy confusing maze of an app (not without it good points mind you ;) )
but i urge anyone who hasn't tried Silo out to give it a whirl, its not worth missing

Maybe a little rough around the edges still since it's beta.
Really great brushes tho'

Great job to the Nevercenter development team and their beta testers. Silo keeps getting better and better, while remaining simple and efficient to use... Its still one of my favorite apps to use on a daily basis.

Its a mint little app - keeping it simple is what I love about it. There isn't a large amount of short cuts to remember - 'x' has like 3 or 4 different functions depending on what is selected. Very intuitive and I'm struggling to think of a bad thing about it. ummmm. Bad thing. yeah I can't think of a bad thing. oh yeah that not enough people are using it - thats the only bad thing I can think of.

edit:
had to edit this ... i come off as the ultimate fanboy.
for me it's the best poly modeling app out there.
it's click efficient; easy to customize (the customization goes deeeep); neat poly tools+workflow; add very good midRange sculpting tools to that; great re-topologizing tools+workflow and you got a killer app.
i think anyone who tries it for a couple of days is gonna stick to it.
