Title: Merlin 'Vanguard'
Name: Paul Donaghy
Country: United Kingdom
Software: Photoshop, XSI

This is a future version of the Royal Navy's Merlin Helicopter. A surface search and intercept version.

It is armed with a vulcan nose cannon and a couple of AGM 84 Harpoon missles. Its modelled in XSI with a little post work done in photoshop.

Anyway i hope you like it.

Wow dude!!...thts some real great stuff.....dude can just elaborate on the lighting part....jst wanted to know how u matched it with the background...... the texture seems to be a bit plane...the guys head inside the cockpit looks like an eye..looks like the chopper is starring at the cam.. :p ...and one last thing is tht the chopper is so close to the sea but i dnt see it affecting the water....anyways i enjoyed looking at ur image...all the best!

Very good! The ocean looks like a Terragen rendering.

Well thamk you for your cooments guys i really appreciate it.

sumeshsam - lighting is pretty simple for this scene just a large sphere as the ambient light using final gather and a spotlight as the sun. Then just tweek the colour of the lights ambient, a very light blue and the spotlight a yellow tinge.

Then just do test renders to get the light levels right. Then when i get it around about what i like i then do the rest in photoshop. I tend to do a lot more post work nowadays as i find it qiucker than messing around with render settings for hours.

I hope that helps.
